next gen region coding...

I think region coding works for Joe Average, but not for folks on this board.

I also think any person who knows how to crack a region-code on a game will likely know how to crack copy protection, which is a much bigger can of worms.
 
The shipping costs are irrelevent. If importing was legal and not region coded, then US based importers would simply fill up containerships full of DVDs and games from China, and sell them in the US, and then the marginal shipping cost would rapidly approach zero.

Yes, shipping a single game from China would be expensive, but that is not what would happen.

Aren't most games in China are in Chinese ? What good would that do to the US that mostly don't speak Chinese ? They can stop mass importing, just by using natural barrier like language.
 
V3 beat me to it. Unless the whole world learnt to speak/read chinese whilst I was asleep, I can't see much demand for imported Chinese DVDs+games ;)
