I think it's just because there hasn't been anything new for a while, and there's no drama anymore.
We know so much about the specs that rumormongers like me don't have any margin left to invent something.
Sony announced too soon, the buzz is gone.

Expect a big announcement from Sony about its next-gen PlayStation 4 console this month or possibly in early May, a source familiar with the company's marketing strategy told PCMag this week.
..
But Sony may be parceling out information about its coming game console to build up buzz, according to the source. Some industry watchers anticipated another reveal or at least some PS4 news at last week's Game Developer Conference, but the company only tipped some details about the underlying hardware, Ars Technica reported.
GDC was probably the last big stage for the company to talk up the successor to the PlayStation 3 before the E3 gaming conference in June, unless Sony manufactures its own event. That's precisely what Sony plans to do, according to the source, who said late April/early May will be the likeliest timeframe for a full-blown launch of the PS4.
To be honest, the most important points are still missing, the price, the launch date, and the console design which is VERY important, I read on the internet that if it's not exactly the perfect color, people will buy an xbox instead.
If you look at console launches going back decades, a lot of this stuff isn't hard to figure out.
1) Price: base model: $399, higher tier: $499 (what the difference between those tiers would be is unknown, but doesn't matter because most people will buy the higher one anyway which is why it exists)
2) Launch date: mid-November, certainly before Black Friday. I'd heavily bet sometime the week before.
3) Console design: who freaking cares. it'll be black.
Yep. Orbis is a known quantity. The only left now is software and services, which can't really be discussed until revealed. Unless people wanna start making up rumours. I heard you can only create a PS4 user account if you provide a valid credit card, and other users of the console have to pay to play games individually, so you can't buy a game and let your bro' play it without him paying.
Thing I don't want to see are ads. Sounds like MS is going to have more ads.
Mobile games either use ads to distribute free games or charge to get rid of ads. That's a fair tradeoff.
But charge $60 for games and then make you sit through ads?
What new game price?
They can't get away with higher prices than this gen.
Haven't sales been lower the past year?
It seems game prices are dropping not too far after release.
TV has always had ads. We'll see if ads in games are tolerated. Show production and sports broadcast rights are far more expensive than games production.
If I am not mistaken Jack Tretton already said that prices for games will go form a minimum of $0.99 to a maximum of $60.
"I think people are willing to pay if they see value there and I think there's more choice than ever before for consumers. We're going to welcome free-to-play models; games from 99 cents up to those $60 games," Tretton said. "But if you really see where the heat is for the true gamer on the console it's still that big-form experience that typically runs upwards of $50 million to develop and will justify that $60 price point and will give people hours and hours of gameplay on a daily basis for months and years to come."
They still have a lot of stuff to show until launch to reignate the buzz.Sony announced too soon, the buzz is gone.
