One of the conditions you have to agree too before they'll sign you up:

You must keep the beta software secure and in good condition.

Huh? :-?

Dont let your cat nest on it!

how do you register as beta tester? on Xbox i just need to apply on the beta page but i cant find any on PS4

It was on the Playstation forums that I signed up. But that was a long time ago. I'm not sure if they keep it open to let new people sign up now, or just when they think that they need new beta testers.

So, just to stay on the whole "well, it's Sony" topic, aka the mysteries revolving around their weird and inexplicable decisions we will never solve...

This article just popped up on ign which is nice since I was wondering myself what happened to the Powers TV show they made a huge fuss about last year. Meant to be released on the PSN, then they only released it in the U.S., France (??) and Scandinavia (???) but not the UK, to name just one example.

And the only answer is... Well, it's Sony. Same as why on earth they still hang on to the frankly archaic system of having different offerings on different countries' PSN store (yes I'm looking at you, Guilty Gears). Baffling.

It's a show they created. Like Netflix creating Breaking Bad and putting it on Netflix for everyone to see. Simples!

It's only a legal issue because they want it to be.

Of course I stand to be corrected.

Powers as a name is much more likely to be copyrighted in the UK than in France, say. Or something in the show, a writer from the UK objecting, etc. So many possibilities in the wonderful world of copyright law, and the EU is still a messy mess when it comes to those things (though things are slowly improving - somewhat).

There are lots of other valid points raised in the article though - like that it looks like they need some kind of deal with a local network for some reason. I'm not saying there is no incompetence here - they have not been able to do Playstation Music successfully and have given up in favor of Spotify now, and PSN Video services never even made it to the Netherlands in the first place (just like XNA never made it here on the Xbox).

So personally, I expect that part will die and that's perhaps why they are looking to partner with others. Either give up or partner with Netflix.

Mmm... So you're saying that maybe they're not releasing it because there was a BBC show called Powers, 10 years ago? Then surely the show would never come out here until they change the name.

I'll keep thinking it's a Well, it's Sony kind of thing. Until proven innocent :yep2:

Are you from the Uk or EU?

This kinda thing happens all the time, with media content was well as physical products. The EU is just a very complex beast, with lots of different countries with lots of different legal requirements, and then you have EU regulation and laws on top of that. It's a mess for lots of companies, not just Sony. So I would say it's more like an "EU" thing than anything else.

Except MS doesn't appear to run into the same issues. Or at least, that's how it seems. Same with Netflix. But then maybe Sony's media department has loads of legacy baggage deals weighing it down?

Its not like they couldn't change the name to accommodate trademarks or copyrights. A lot shows' names aren't even straight translation when dealing with different countries.

The Fresh Prince of Bellaire is titled "A Crazy in the Area" in Brazil. LOL.

Have you ever heard of "The Rundown" starring the Rock? In the UK its titled "Welcome to the Jungle".
Does the UK have White Castles? Probably not and probably why its called Harold and Kumar gets the Munchies in the UK.

hm... I thought Netflix was different between regions, even Canada vs USA. Amazon Prime is terrible in Canada
everything sucks in Canada
. :(

Different games on the store always comes down to logistics. In the EU Guilty gear isn't even localized, so why would they have it on the EU store?
