well, I'm not aware of any games censorship in the Czech Republic ... sure, we don't have some services available (Netflix, etc.) and games doesn't have localized voiceovers and only some have localized subtitles, but this is not a problem, at least kids will learn English.
Yeah - different issues. Germany and Australia particularly for censorship/rating issues. Lots of other places for lack of localisation or physical distribution. Any country which isn't in the G20 and where the language, or particular dialect, is spoken by relatively few in global terms, is probably going to play second fiddle in localisation terms. I recall CD Project Red initially being sad because Poland wasn't even on Microsoft's launch roadmap for Xbox One when the game was originally intended to be released - bearing in mind Microsoft have a marketing deal for Witcher 3. Obviously much has changed since.

My point was the UK is far from the worst place to be a gamer, hence my grass is greener reference :yep2:

How would a software and hardware engineer be of use in contract negotiations? :???: I think Sony are basically stuck with whatever ongoing rights distribution agreements they have and this may take years to change.

Mark Cerny is pretty far beyond being just an engineer, my thought there was that as management his view would be towards getting Sony's media arm to focus on things like integration across the company, cross-platform support, ease of use, etc. - i.e. get the system working well and looking forward. Sony needs more engineers and less lawyers on that side of the company. As it is, they appear to put the majority of their resources towards sleaze lobbying and similar political corruption / manipulation with the goal being to maintain as much of the old (i.e. evil) media distribution model as they can. Sony should have / could have been Netflix but instead they choose to focus on things like copyright term extensions, anti-privacy legislation, etc.

I think this is simplistic of view the current position and Sony's motivations and decision making that have resulted being where they are.

I watched The Interview on my neighbours Xbox One, it was't available for streaming on PlayStation 4. Sony almost certainly could not have conceived this eventuality when they were making whatever deals that made that meant they couldn't release they super hyped film on their own platform.

And of course, it may have cost Sony an arm and a leg had decisions, without any benefit of hindsight, changed the terms of deals to have made this a possibility.

Wasn't the Interview a Sony film too?

Come on, you guys can't tell me it's just the state of distribution rights in my country, when a Sony film is out on a MS platform (and Apple, which is how I watched it) but not on Sony's platform.

I'm not just a nagging bitch. This is a thing.

Yes, this made it all the more absurd. Sony were [allegedly] hacked over this movie, suffered cinemas withdrawing it from screening because of threats of terrorism, so released it on as many streaming platforms as possible but couldn't on PlayStation. Ludicrous.

But going back almost fifteen years I remember Fox producing Buffy the Vampire Slayer which was, at the time, a crazily high-rated TV show, then having to cede rights on syndication and network airing in the US. Internationally it was even more a problem as they had almost no control about DVD distribution, nor how DVD were distributed nor the quality of what was sold to consumers.

The whole thing is as nonsensical as politics and toast :yep2:

Thats weird. My PS4 was updated to firmware 2.51 last night and suddenly Watch Dogs cant be suspended any more. Some other games I tried do though

I'm not gonna lie. That's pretty bad on Sony's part.

I was a bit worried about my PS4 today (5 days before Project Cars release, gee), blu-ray drive started to make sounds like when disc is ejected and in the same time two beeps were heard, all this with some 5 - 10 seconds periodicity. It didn't accept disc and it didn't help to put the PS4 in off state and switch on again. Only thing that helped was to unplug the mains cable, because even in off-state some of the circuitry is powered and probably needed reset.

oh its the eject problem. very common according to the internet. the workaround official by sony website is unplug a while then re-plug. The official fix is to send it fro repair.
the unofficial fix is open the case and turn some screw (i dont remember, its tighten or loosen)

It doesnt need repair or to turn a screw. Its a simple procedure or resetting the console
I had this issue and it was fixed using this video

I am not a lawyer so I'm still poor, but does "with prejudice" mean it becomes a case to use as precedent to win easily if someone else tries to do this kind of stupid lawsuit again?

It means they can not bring this case again. If the judgement had been dismissal without prejudice, the plaintive could have refiled.

You'd need to read the full judgement to discern why but effectively the presiding official said this was bullshit. I'm not sure I agree but there you are.

Well it was bullshit, just some motherfucker looking for (in his eyes) an easy way to help himself to other peoples' money instead of making some on his own. Too bad the judge didn't award reimbursement of legal costs to Sony from that wanker.

Speaking of bullshit lawsuits, I haven't heard anything from the id/Bethsoft suit in quite a while now. Is it still ongoing? (Not really on-topic for this thread, I admit... *ahem*)
