I thought the same, then I checked my standby settings after the 2.0 update and I noticed that they had reset. So I changed them to allow for a constant internet connection and then the console crashed and went to safe mode next time I turned it on.My PS4 is always in the standby mode, never encountered any problem.

That's precisely what happened to me too. If you hold the power button a good few second (longer than you'd think), the system resets without needing to remove the power cord.Having disabled 'rest' mode last Friday, I re-enabled it yesterday and when I put the PS4 into rest mode the yellow light looked normal until we went to bed, but this morning it was pulsing distressingly and wouldn't wake. The soft reset (hold down the power button for 10 seconds) didn't reset it so I had to yank the AC cable out - no minor feat in my AV centre!
I'll be fulling switching off the the PS4 until Sony fix this. It's very hit and miss because rest mode worked fine when I updated to firmware 2.0 last Tuesday/Wednesday and worked okay until I caved and switched it off on Friday
I have USB charging completely disabled.

i do think it related to USB because after update 2.0, my PS4 often cannot stop screaming "USB UNSUPPORTED" on top-left screen then suddently it just stop but it will appear again on next boot. (the duration and when it pop-up is random).
hmm. i gotta try going to standby without charging anything
Surely you can just put it into safe mode and force the re-install of the software from the internet or USB stick?Sadly there's no way to update the PS4 to the same version without a complete wipe.
I haven't read the entire thread on the 2.00 bug, but is there a sure fire way to make sure it doesn't happen, like not having any usb ports in use or just disabling some feature in the os?

Ya, don't use rest mode.
Do you know if rest mode Is enabled by default or was it a feature the user had to enable?
