Hurray now i can play MUSIC USB on PS4.

then.. BLOODY HELL SONY. The game music and the USB music blaring at the same time.

Man. I think i have been spoiled by awesome background music playback in X360 that mute in-game music (it even works over network!).

Now basicaly my PS4 2.00 is the same as 1.80 but i can change backgrounds. Why not call it 1.90 :(

You're also about to get pestered by freeloaders on your friendslist who want to play your games now. If that's not so very much 2.0 then I don't know what is.

You can configure the notifications in quite a lot of detail on PS4.

If they haven't already, they need to add a API so games know when the PS4 is playing music so the game can auto switch off background music.

Existing games would need to be patched to support this.

For those curious like myself, no additional YouTube HTML5 Video Player components supported in the browser in firmware 2.0, from the looks of it:

From some of my video industry friends... PS3 supports Media Source Extension (probably via their Skinny App SDK). The requirements may be driven by Netflix since they want to get away from Silverlight for cross platform streaming. If your Mac can support it, Netflix also ditched Silverlight on Yosemite in favor of MSE.

The PS3 end user browser OTOH does not support MSE.

PS4 probably does the same thing. Even though the end user browser does not support MSE, it is very likely they have an extended/separate WebKit stack for streaming providers (using MSE).

EDIT:
The main advantage of MSE is that the streaming provider has full control over the video source and adaptive bandwidth management. The entire streaming player is written in JavaScript. However, I think the regular HTML5 video element is more efficient. It's a flexibility vs efficiency tradeoff.

EDIT 2:
There... the efficiency order should be (Better to worse):

HTML5 video element (native code) > MSE (JavaScript + native) > Silverlight, Flash

All major browsers (save for Opera, I think) support MSE, plus of course HTML5 video element.

Some really interesting hidden stuff in the 2.0 update, I selected just a few and added a few comments in italics:
.You can set how long to charge your controller or devices when the console is in standby so it won't be always on or always off. Options are No USB charging, USB charging for 3 hours, always on
Hm, how about the option is "charge until fully charged" and then switch off, instead of for a fixed three hours, which might be more than needed or possibly not enough to bring the battery back up to full.

Yeah this is an odd one but perhaps the option is there for people who use their PS4 to charge other devices that he PS4 does not know the battery status.

Or perhaps the PS4 in "rest mode" (previously "sleep") simply can not discern the battery status of the controller.

I am a little surprised that the PS4 is drawing power to power the USB port regardless of anything being connected. This seems odd but perhaps the functionality of "rest mode" is rudimentary right now.

Regarding PS4 and HTML5 video, I tried SVT play (like the BBC IPlayer for Sweden) and it worked really well.

Also, Vita got a DLNA streaming app today (and Sony didn't tell anyone of course). Seems to work pretty ok, but video support (particulary .ts and .tp containers) seem better on the PS3.....

Btw, DRIVECLUB handles music from usb properly. Turns off own soundtrack when it's playing and back if you pause music in usb player.

Yeah, shouldn't all games work like that since you could do background music from Music Unlimited before?

Yes, but some games don't automatically mute I noticed. For instance Pure Pool I had to turn down the in-game music when I was listening to Music Unlimited. So it doesn't seem to be an entirely SDK driven feature, or games need to be built with a certain SDK minimum version.

When watching Live Streams, now you can browse through the list without stopping the broadcast you were currently watching. It will minimize it to a thumbnail while you are on the list. That one is pretty cool.

I consider this a misfeature as there is no way I have found to stop that thumbnail stream short of exiting the client. For example, if you click on an objectionable stream you can no longer stop it by clicking the "o" button as that just minimizes it. I would also argue that in practice that minimized window does nothing but show you streams you are not interested in (since you backed out of them). It's a like having Picture In Picture solely for channels you do not want to watch.

=)

Cheers

I never cared about suspend / resume feature, I rarely let the PS4 even on standby mode anyway.

But happy that they finally give us the ability to pause downloads. When you have a crappy Internet access and that you have to download several Gigabytes on your PS4, you really have to schedule the whole thing as the PS4 will completely eat all the bandwidth.
I heard that with 2.0 firmware PS4 got suspension mode. Am I right?

Suspension is better than you think. :smile2: When in a hurry it lets you turn off the console without unwanted consequences -losing progress-. Load times disappear, etc etc.

Every night when I go to bed I launch Powerstar Golf and turn the console off afterwards, so the next day my brother can just play a few seconds after he turned the console on, with no hassle for him --he is a casual.

Nope, not yet. But they renamed standby to 'rest-mode' for some reason (and power-off is renamed as well I think). This is typically a Japanese snafu, if you ask me, because I think by now everyone knows what stand-by means vs power-off. But perhaps their customer department told them differently? Or this works better with voice commands? (please stand-by was used too often in games and confused with playstation stand-by? ;) )

I also hear some issues with 'rest-mode', PS4s not always coming out of it and giving a blinking orange/yellow light. You then have to hold the power button for 10 secs to power it off, and then start it. I haven't had the issue yet, but it is apparently very intermittent.

bugs in 2.0 i get
- random audio cut-off, before 2.00 never happen
- random video cut-off more often than before
- very slow controller timeout when switching from RemotePlay Vita to local Dualshock4 and vise versa.
- randomly cannot wake up from standby (err... "rest")
- wonky party chat, ingame chat works fine. (although this could be a simple coincidence)
- Notification randomly did not bring me to proper screen when i press PS button

the improvement i notice:
- remoteplay is much more responsive
- the whole system is much more stable (before 2.0, the OS often stutter or even froze for minutes when multitask)
- much faster ingame invitation system menu.

too bad sony did not have feedback.ps.com like feedback.xbox.com
