If I already own a BRD player, why would I want to buy a second one? It'd be a waste of $75.I didn't realize people still used consoles for BD playback, I thought these days people would use $75 12W dedicated players.

So you assume everyone who owned a PS3 and watched BRDs in it is also a working adult with a full entertainment centre? There's a lot of different usage cases for consoles....but a working adult with a full entertainment center?
To save wear and tear on a $400 device that makes too much noise and uses too much power for movie watching? Call me crazy. The PS3 was great as a BD player when stand alones were $400, but that was 2007. I can understand it if you are in a dorm room, but a working adult with a full entertainment center? $75 is nothing compared to the total cost of equipment.

So the human population can be categorised into 'those in dorm rooms' and 'those with entertainment centres'...I didn't assume anything, hence the "I can understand it if you are in a dorm room".

I can think of plenty of people with moderately low incomes, or general disinterest in a superior home cinema experience, who'd find value in a console that plays disks.
But do those people post here? My post was aimed at this audience, not the larger world of console owners.
Sure. We've seen enough of different people's setups here to know not everyone maintains a high quality home cinema enthusiast experience. Heck, we even have people telling you they miss media playback in PS4 - what more proof do you need? But do those people post here? Maybe cleaning/de-dusting/lubing up the mechanism would make it perform well again. How is it exhibiting disc-eating difficulties?
My BD drive is starting to wear out. It has trouble pulling discs in now. But replacements are peanuts so it's not much of a worry.
Of course they do, this ain't AVSForum...But do those people post here? My post was aimed at this audience, not the larger world of console owners.
