Well, I just got an email from the store where I preordered a PS4 and they're basically informing their buyers that there's a huge demand for the PS4 against relatively low supply (here in Switzerland that is). They are in fact stating that overhere, some might only receive it between January and March 2014 due to incredible demand.

Luckily, I am in the first batch and should get mine by the end of November.
Think I might have to organize a bullet-proof van/transporter when I pick mine up... muahaha.

I can't make it out. This slide is the most informative.

I can see something block under the drive, which I guessed was the PSU, but is that the HDD space? That'd make the PSU the long, black thing at the back of the console, which otherwise I can't explain except as filler.

Yes, it's the PSU as shown in the video in the Technical investigation thread. I suggest we move discussion there as more apt.

Ah no you're right, I'm imagining it the wrong way up. It looks like the standard (sic) design they've used with the PS3(s). The little green PCB will be the USB\Port controller board, same as the PS3 I would guess. Other than that it is a very compact and well designed unit methinks!

Single centrifugal fan and pretty large heatsink. And it looks like the PSU is at the front of the unit!? Hopefully we'll get some higher res images soon.

PSU is at the back. HDD and BD drive are pressed all to the frond of the console. Its the same configuration like PS3, only this time HDD is above the BD player.

It needs to be built into the OS directly. There's no reason not to.
Memory. If the client functionality, including whatever it needs to buffer incoming audio and video, won't fit into the current OS RAM reservation.

Do we know what the specific implementation is for Vita remote sharing? I've not read much about it other than it's pretty low latency like the Wii U.

Wow, that looks quite impressive. How it works it another matter, but being a hardware company I'd hope Sony know what they are doing. Sony are approaching Apple-like obsessive design on the internals of this product - that is in how that look. Not important to 99% of the customer base but nice that it looks as cool on the inside as it does on the outside is a nice touch to those who appreciate such irrelevancies.

From Steve Job's biography, it's Apple that took a leaf out of Sony's book in producing high quality, minimalistic products with a high quality industrial design. Many years ago. :D

This is true. Jobs told the story of his dad, a carpenter, who made the back of furniture, which is almost never seen, as carefully crafted as the front. Now, old Apple gear was a mess inside but in the past ten years, they've been as careful with internal design as with external design language. Looking at the inside of the PS4 really reminded me of this.

And you've gotta love that screw holding the HDD In place with the X, Circle, Triangle and Square on. Cost be damned, that's just cool :D

I think Jobs liked Sony's design sense and smart pricing.

The minimalist design theme is more Jobs and Ive's thing. At its height, Sony has over a million SKUs that appeal to all segments and styles.

Actually if you look inside the original PS3, the layout was clean.

And the same was true of Apple products even before Jobs came back. Remember the pizza box LC Macs? Didn't even need a screw driver to open and everything just snapped into place, very clean.

But the more recent designs, like some of the real thin MacBook Pros, are messy because they are squeezing everything into a tight space, using a lot of thermal paste.

Yeah it's interesting that the original Iphone 4 aesthetic was inspired by an imaginary SONY design. This went public when the battle between Apple and Samsung caused leaked internal design sketches.

Ive worked at Apple since the 25th Anniversary Mac days I think.

They probably didn't know Sony's internal design.

Jobs wanted a push button for iPhone, and that's what they got.
