I don't think that means bye bye Move, but that the controller can be identified by color instead of the leds, and can be seen by the camera more easily. At this point a color shifting led is probably cheaper than those original four leds, and way more user friendly. Mind you, it will still mean that the PS Eye can very likely find it and track it. But I don't see that as being as useful as a Move controller, simply because for free movement that dualshock would just not be comfortable. Could be really good for some uses though.

Can't really tell from this if that touch area is also a display, but it's definitely quite small currently. I do really hope it's a display though, I would hate it otherwise.

+1

Also noticed the speaker just below the touchpad.

Can't be a display. Too expensive and small.

I do wonder why they bother with a built-in speaker. Or is that a mic ?

Would be great if the grip is like Vita's Nyko grip.

Dpad buttons like Vita's.

And just below the PS Bottom, could that be a headphone jack? I really would like that. :D

I'm guessing a headphone jack is in. It's the best way to get a consistent experience on the platform. I just hope their mics aren't as cheap and breakable as the xbox ones.

Would it make sense to have a mic on a controller? The wiimote has a speaker on it, so maybe they thought that was something worth doing.

That body looks awfully "thick" which gives the impression that it'll be a fair bit heavier than the standard DS3 controller.

I do like that the nubs that your palms rest against are nice and thick like the X360's controller though. That should make it somewhat more comfortable to hold than a standard DS3, maybe.

Still wish they would change the layout of the analog sticks to be more like the 360's though.

SB

It's a prototype. Could have room for different innards, different bolt-on adaptors (different lights on the front and stuff), etc. I wouldn't read too much into it other than the shiny bit. ;)

Holy batman, an amber screen. Haven't seen those for ages.

If Sony add that screen to the controller, I bet it would replace the XMB ticker.

So with PS Dual Eye, ultrasonic tracking, they should be able to map out a 3d space and players within pretty accurately. Is this more reliable than infrared?

Ultrasonic tracking would imply time of flight. Microsoft has a lot of patents with regards to a time of flight system. I'd say not very likely as it'll likely be more expensive (monetarily) than a visual camera approach.

Ultrasonic sensors were used in Aibo. Sony has related patents for gaming use too.

As I understand, it may have echo issues. And if they are sticking with controller-based solutions, Sony can get reasonable depth info as well.

I think we will see more natural UI from various vendors, including Intel too. Stay tuned. ^_^
