News & Rumours: Playstation 4/ Orbis *spin*

As much as I hate on the XB1, let's face it, if MS completely failed for next gen, then all we'd be left with is a Sony PS4 with no competition, and just like we're seeing MS in a place where they thought they had no competitor, we also say Sony do the same boneheaded moves at the start of the PS3.

What's more, that fierce competition is what's driving some game development, forcing Sony and MS to pony up money to get games, or extra content for games made. Sometimes they pay third parties and end up funding games that just wouldn't be made, but it also forces these corporations to dig into their IP libraries to give us new games from beloved franchises (at which point they milk them through the generation, but c'est la vie).

I don't think so (Dominance Thread). Even with a 5:1 sales ratio, XB1 will still get full game support, I'm sure. The only thing it might lack, maybe, is Indie titles.

For the majority, I think you're right, but remember this isn't just a simple recompile for xbone.

Devs will have to do memory management gymnastics with the 32mb sram cache and possibly/probably tiling as well.

If the userbase split is similar to what we saw with ps2 v xbox, I could see a lot of developers not wasting the time to get their title to run *well* on xbone and just let it swim in the ddr3 pool. If that means <720p or < 30fps, oh well, on to the next ps2 err ps4 game. ;)

I don't believe in corporate welfare. ;)

Sony has made the right decisions this gen and should be rewarded by the market for them.

Great, so now whichever random employee gets told to be the "IT person" has to manage (and understand) firewalls on every machine / device instead of just at the gateway? At least as it stands now NAT helps to mitigate some security issues thanks to non-routable IPs on the local LAN.

IP6 seems like it is going to be a massive clusterfrack DDOS shangrila.

Seriously NAT got more negative points than positive.
If your an Enterprise and you do not have a solution to rollout a default setting on the PC's your deploying and can lock them down as needed you might look into your own org.

Soho/SMB, well its no different than now, some employee or sole IT guy will have understand it.

The idea about no central Firwall is that the old end to end connections should work again, but there is nothing stopping you from deploying a Firewall. But the firewall will not really help with a DDOS attack anyway. Because its about using all of your resources and first thing to fold is your GW/Router. So if somebody does DDOS you then it will stop by itself when your router breaks down :D

But a couple of ISP's I am working with are going for Firewall of on the GW/Router and the consumer is responsible for turning it on themselves if they want it on.

It's been repeatedly hinted to be for PS4 and PC, but never confirmed. They keep redesigning the visuals, and lately they settled on the new look but nothing leaked, not a single image, no blurry cam. I have never seen so much secrecy about a sequel that's been known to be in production for over 4 years.

Most of the hype is about innovative gameplay, but we know nothing. They have a pretty trustworthy team I guess,
While we are sworn to secrecy on exactly what we were shown, what we can say is that EverQuest Next was hands-down the best game we had the pleasure of seeing during E3 2013. Franchise fans and MMO gamers across the globe will be able to learn exactly why that’s the case on August 2nd during SOE Live when EQNext is given its grand unveiling.
Trust us when we say that you’ll want to mark that date on your calendar, and be prepared to bask in the warm glow of EverQuest Next in all its glory. In the meantime, kudos to the folks over at SOE for winning our Best of Show award; we’re as excited as you are to witness the impact EverQuest Next is surely going to have on gamers this August!
I played both EQ1 and EQ2 for the last 10 years. To say I'm excited about this hype would be an understatement. :D

no journalist is asking the question about the compatibility of 3.5mm headphone in ds4 that may provide the audio of the game wirelessly ?

The video says they aren't sure that the PSU is inside the box or not.

Yosp (Shuhei's twitter) has re-confirmed it is in the box itself, for those wondering.

I hope they still support my old blue-tooth PS3 headset. Adding a wired headset to a wireless controller seems backwards to me. I always get annoyed by the wired headset on the 360.

Sony has let slip which games will be free for the first psn+ offering. Dont know which region but I assume it will be all regions.

Drive club which we know about then some standard psn fare. Outlast, dont starve and secret ponchos.

So buy a PS4, buy a £40 PSN+ subscription so you can play online games, and get a £40-50 game free? Anyone else think the PSN+ subscription is going to increase in price? It doesn't strike me as economically viable to give premium content like that away.

They usually don't offer a ton of new content upfront, most games are a few months old. The price could go up, though I hope not. They need to emphasize value overall and low entry fee. If stellar lineups everything month say twice the price, I think they will scare users away.

I think the strategy of keeping with few/several months old games combined with rare recent third-party and SCE games is the way to go. PS Plus should be an easy entry fee for any user (who owns a PS3/PS4 for a long time, or newly purchases one down the line), new and old, not just for 'current' gamers.

You aren't getting a £40 game, it's a cut down version of Drive Club with less cars and tracks than the full version, but they have been doing it since they introduced the "Instant Collection" so it's nothing new.

It's an interesting financial model that works for both the publisher and to a lesser extent Sony, but I believe the current PSN+ subscription covers it. Doesn't mean there won't be a price increase but I don't think there needs to be one.
I think that if there were a lot more PSN+ subscribers publishers might have been more reticent to sign up.
The bigger issue will be how they can do it on PS4 without the back catalog.

As PSN+ is necessary for online play on PS4, I'm expecting a good half of PS4 owners to subscribe. It's gotta be a good 20 million at least after a few years.
