especially as my and probably many other early adopters' PS3 remotes are very worn and ratty after so many years of service.
What exactly do you do with remotes??

I'm not. I think Sony are banking on a lot of people using their TV/STB's remote which will control the PS4 (via HDMI-CEC). Now it's a long way from perfect but with an update, I'll be able to use my fully-featured TV-remote to control the PS4's Blu-ray and DVD playback functions. And there's no reason media apps like Netflix, IGN etc, can not be updated to accept this input as well.
I think a PS4-specific remote is probably a long way down Sony's list of hardware to make, especially as Sony have been making an effect to stop making low-margin, low-selling hardware.
I'm not opposed to one myself, I owned by the PS2 remote (which came with an IR received) and the PS3 Bluetooth remote and it's rather annoying the latter doesn't work with PS4.
Well that entirely depends on volume. How many if these do you see Sony selling? 25,000? 100,000? 1,000,000? If CEC is working for lots of people, how many will spring for a dedicated remote? Personally I'd rather spend 20 on a game. The margin on a 20.00 remote is probably better than the console itself, IMO the time to do a remote is at or near launch to try and recover whatever loss they are taking on hardware sales.

Incidentally what is the margin? Remember there is design, testing, certification (EC, FCC etc), manufacture, packaging, shipping, inventory.
Well I never had to do this on my PS3.......
Well CEC isn't even working properly on Bravia TVs, so we can hardly account for that.

Ok, I'm more interested in facts than guesswork.I have no idea what the margin is but I would imagine its decent if not arguably better than the actual console.
Dish's Hopper, some Panasonic, Huawei and Philips models. I don't have a list, I found those by googling. What STB supports HDMI CEC?
Curiosity - how does that charge the controllers? The USB plus is on the other side...
Excellent, Amazon have finally dispatched my official Sony DualShock 4 charging station! It's been out of stock since the PS4 launch.

Amazon UK is out of stock and the only other seller is charging double, it's not even available on US Amazon.Excellent, Amazon have finally dispatched my official Sony DualShock 4 charging station! It's been out of stock since the PS4 launch.
Mine was ordered about two weeks prior to the UK launch.Sony really need to pick their game up as they are not meeting demand on most accessories, an official blu-ray remote is not even available several months after launch.
