New madden 360 shots

The screens look nice, though what I'm still waiting for in a sports game of this caliber is dirt playing a much higher role, i.e.: when a character falls on into the grass that his clothes start to get dirty and have influences like this have a bigger impact on the way characters move and play. I think these close ups is really fine, but IMO some of the details is a bit overkill since you'll be playing the game from a much further POV.

hey, EA finally caught up with NFL 2k5 in the texture dept. ;)

Still, loads better than the last set of pics we had seen.

No EA still has a long way to go. They need to show me more or I'll wait until 2007. And at the end of the day why do SOOO many people care about the outside of the graphics when the inside such as physics and animation look HORRIBLE!!

EA is not even close. I repeat not even CLOSE. They need to step their game way up to impress me. You know what impressed me from EA? Fight Night 3 and Def Jam next-gen. Those two guys have next-gen written all on them. Those two games couldn't even come close to being redone on the current systems. Yet what EA has showed so far is not too far from what Sega was doing LAST YEAR.

Madden still sells a crapload of copies, what was the best selling game on both systems for the last two months???

So obviosuly many people are fairly content with the game mechanics, and animations.

Compared to the screenshots they showed us earlier these are MUCH MUCH MUCH better, so, I think we can give credit where it's due. And from what I've seen the animations are getting there, they seem to have implemented ragdoll effects on the models, and I don't think they are anywhere near as bad as you make them sound.

They have a ways to go, but this is a promising look at things to come IMO.

The people in the crowd are definately extremely repetitive, I think there's something like 5 character models?? lol

I'm sure they just haven't implemented a dynamic crowd generating system, on the flip side the character models in the crowd look really good.

Well, the texture res seems to be high enough. My problem, though, is with the lighting, and that is the same. The lighting looks pretty Xboxish especially compared to the initial shots.

EXACTLY! Still looks like a high res super Xbox game to me. And it looks like it will play like one too. I love Madden with everything in my heart and that's why I will never roll over and give them a benefit of the doubt. Give me my favorite sports game a real overhaul. Not some super highres crap.

Ya...they just bumped the resolution up... ;)

Wow...the before and after is like putting visine in your eyes and clearing up your vision. I hated the blurriness of Madden games. I just delt with it so I could kick my fathers and cousins asses with the NY Giants.

No I was talking about Sega's NFL 2K5. Not Madden. Of course it looks better than the old Madden.

it looks indredibly better than NFL2K as well. I don't see where you are coming from.

And it looks like it will play like one too
You have not seen any evidence of how it plays. I think you're jumping to "negative" conclusions. .

I think people are too hung up on graphics?

What was the thing that made Madden games feel like.. games?

*The animation!*

The players moved so unnaturally and the switch between different animation routines (*running* to *scratching their balls* for example) was atrocious.

If all they do is keep the same animation routines but slap better models and textures on them, Madden will stay the stiff game it's always been.

This is valid for ALL sports games, where we spend all of our time looking at human characters which have to move properly before we start worrying about being able to see the bloody stitches in the fabric of their tops.

Okay, so you took the crappiest grab of Madden from Gamespot and compared it to a direct capture of the next-gen version? Of course details will be lost in the old version. Go here to find better captures of Madden '06.

Anyway, NFL 2k5 has much better lighting than Madden '06 does. NFL 2k5 is pretty comparable to Madden 360, despite what some claim. I've played the former enough to have a good sense of its appearance.

Besides, I don't see anyone claiming these new shots have lighting equal to the original shots released by EA. The new ones are clearly inferior on that count.

dynamic shadows, a la MGS4, are missing from the original trailer.
3d crowd is impressive, even if it's repetitive.

What is the cost of the 3D crowd?

Could they for instance have had cloth simulation on the jerseys instead?

EA also claims facial animation but that's obviously for atmosphere and presentation, not gameplay.

Maybe physics-based animation instead of using the same animation system (apparently) that they are using for the current generation?
