New madden 360 shots. If this doesn't shut up the people about the previous shots I don't know what will.
Muwahahahaha
Definate improvement.
Helmets = drool
Faces = drool
Ball = double drool
Stadiums = drool
Texture detail = drool (e.g. jerseys, faces, helmets, ball)
A LOT of good stuff there. But there are still areas I would like to see improved:
The field. Even carpet (turf) has some texture to it. After seeing the nice paralax mapping in Kameo and the small poly grass in Tiger Woods I am guessing something could happen to make it come more to life. The hard to read 10 yard line in the Brooke's picture is another area.
DOF. I think a mild DOF filter would add a lot to images.
Low poly (e.g. look at Brooke's elbow, hand). Understandable considering the stadium, fans, and the player detail--and you wont notice such from normal playing angles--but it looks kind of funny. Seeing as devs just got final beta kits I can excuse this for a launch title. It is not the end of the world.
Prebaked jersies. They bother me. They just don't seem to bend/interact right (having watched the movies). Not sure what they could do to make it better that would be "easy" (22 players with cloth similation for something like a jersy that is barely EVERY interactive seems like a waste). Although the other new shots with the thigh pads on the legs look VERY good. That was one of my big complaints and one of the areas the CGI kicked butt... the pads on the leg now have more life due to better shadowing.
Arm textures (e.g. Harrison's arms look odd). Kind of wierd.
Shadowing and lighting. The pics look good, but I think there is a lot of room for improvement in this area.
Animation. I am sure this is an area Q and I will disagree. I play every Madden and I am tired of mocap, at least Madden's version. e.g. They may mocap hits from 16 different angles for double team tackles. That means you only ever see the same 16 animations once a double tackle is initiated. While a new animation system would be hard to create and even HARDER to balance for play balance/gameplay reasons, I think it is a better approach. I posted a link of a "behavior animation" system the other day that gave some examples of football animations. It was kinetic/physics based that inertwined with mocap, and was "bevarior" oriented in that if a player was hurt he would limp, if a certain joint was hit he reacted in a certain way, if he was scared he would get "skittish" etc... It looked very organic. As they said "every hit would be totally different". Maybe in 2007 eh
Btw, Madden has come a long way. Madden 2001:
Madden 2001 #1
Madden 2001 #2
Madden 2001 #3
And Madden 98
Uh yeah... definate improvement!
