OMG! it makes me cringe when I hear about the work that is put into these games, not for me but for the people funding this game. 5 years!,140 people!,multiple continents! untold man hours! and payback comes down to a subjective $50 piece of entertainment put in the hands of millions of fickle gamers.
I wouldn't have any nails left if I worked in the business end of this industry.

There should be no nervousness if the developer remembers one thing: make the game fun. Everything else will flow from this. I am so disappointed that so many big budget experiences forget this one, simple rule.

Yeah, the production values are through the roof, I mean would it be enough for it to become a million seller to actually make some money?...

A very very simplistic view would be just to multiple the retail price with 1M and deduct cost and retail/distributor markup and see where you end up :D

So if sales are 1 000 000
$60USD x 1 000 000 = $60 000 000

Cost is reported to be $40 000 000 and we had some for marketing, logistics, reseller markup etc, I would guess that a sales of 1 000 000 would be enough to make a decent profit. But even if the game does become hugely profitable, it got the potentiality to sell hardware, which broadens the installed base, which in the future is a larger market to make cash from.
Ie I think Sony wouldn'y mind so much if it didn't sell 1M copies, if it managed to sell a decent amount of hardware. But the likeliness that a game pushes few copies and sells alot of hardware is not that high I belive.

no, its more like NG where you need to block and do counters to survive, you can't simply hack and slash your way through the game. there are also many moves/combos in the game, QTE's like GoW and some puzzle solving parts.

Yes, that is. Simple rule that differentiates the actual good games from games like GeOW, for instance. I for one bought Gears of War because of the hype but at the end of the day it's not a game I have fond memories of.

HS is receiving good scores from magazines and unlike KZ2 or Lair, imo, it's the most colorful game of the PS3 until now, and that's nice.

One thing I fear about this game is the fact that the girl's arse is a better character than the actual character or it isn't. Also a PS3 owner told me that the controls are a bit complicated and that he was able to do the same amount of moves in another (similar) game with just 3 buttons.

djskribbles, thanks for the reply.

How did you jump to this conclusion?

Hmmm?
There are different mechanics for each game, and they can all be fun in their own way.

That doesnt mean it is needlessly "complicated". The amount of moves is irrelevant to the kind of moves performed and the style of play. Is that other game fun?

It may basically look the same on the surface like a hack and slash title but that doesnt make it the same or similar. Btw hack and slash are basically games such as Dynasty Warriors and this doesnt play like it. HS should belong in the action adventure genre mostly.

Your friend may also need some practice because he is used to that other game. You cant expect every game to play the same. Its just not logical.

I tried Ninja Gaiden, DMC and God of War and they all play differently, each game having different difficulties and complexities. I cant use the same inputs or tactics

What was that other game btw?

Cannot wait to see the first unbiased review.

Is there such a thing?

Reviews on Three Speech. Yep, we can understand if any of you have reservations over us featuring first party titles but, equally, we don’t censor our writers and view reviews appearing here much the same as them appearing in the official magazine. Let us know your thoughts - if it’s apparent you don’t want these reviews, we’ll steer clear.

Edge normally give it a good go.

But then there is a difference between an IGN review and the one you posted, threespeech (if they are indeed unofficial) wouldn't dare say it sucked as their relationship with Sony would go down the toilet.

Judging from the demo it's a good game, but I refuse to take their word for it.

They would, but I wouldn't say that ruled out honesty completely. If they didn't like a game, better to just not comment on it, and save the column inches for games they like and can rave about.

Contributions are supposed to be by a somewhat open invitation, rather than being Sony employees. The review is by Steve Boxer, who according to Google is a veteran freelance gaming journalist who writes for the Guardian newspaper. It's probably fair to say the review is his real personal opinion, while on the flip side of course it's going to be a positive review on Threespeech otherwise they wouldn't publish it! But that doesn't mean it's all bogus hype, so much as cherry-picked opinion. As always, take the positive opinions and negative from all sources, and try to find an overall view that fits your tastes as a gamer to decide in the game is for you or not.

Yes, of course, I can explain that. Sry my mispelling, it's not a conclusion.

What I tried to imply was that it should be great if the main character, the story and so on live up to the hype.

I don't like skinny girls because I want something to grab, not bones, although Nariko looks "fine" in that regard, specially because she is red-haired and for whatever reason I have a fancy for gingerism.

As for the other game, it's Ninja Gaiden Sigma.
