New HD PGR3 grabs

I'm talking solely about the example pic with the tail end of the TVR. Obvious poly's around the wheel arches, polygonised surface causing wiggly reflections - that sort of thing. I'm not saying this will/won't be noticed while playing. I'm questioning why, given the capabilites of next gen hardware and only flat buildings from the look of it, there aren't oodles more poly's going into cars? Though I guess on reflection if they want a couple o' dozen of these car's on screen at once...

How many poly's per car? Any indications anywhere?

Another thing about those "low poly" cars and buildings, it's IMHO very noticable on a "tiny" screenshot on 24" PC monitor, what really scares me is the thought of having those visuals stretched out onto a 50" HDTV display.

You don't sit the same distance with PC monitors and HDTVs. 18" diagonal monitor 12 inches from your face will be about the same as a 50" HDTV 6~8 feet away from your couch.

We hope to be able to release a more up-to-date in-game video some time soon - watch this space!
Cool!

Kinda off topic but I assume the 360 doesn't have that special screen cap utility that the xbox had? Seems like the shots they were releasing for xbox promos were alot cleaner than the ones we're seeing for 360 titles whereas the xbox shots had insane AA in them.

Of course, save that they say these are 'in game' resources. Is development using low poly models and scenery during development to maintain a smooth framerate, with the art department recreating the resources at improved resolution? Or are they producing resources that will appear in the final game, running at less than perfect framerates during development on alpha kits knowing there'll be a speed boost on later hardware?

This video was created using actual in-game models and assets from PGR3, and not ones specifically made for the video. So the level of detail you see here will be not only matched, but surpassed in the game itself, as the models are getting more and more detailed as development goes on.

That looks a trillion times better than the other scenery (very nice!!). Why the discrepency? If this is the quality of the scenery, why release screenshot with flat texture-mapped buildings? I don't understand these companies take on PR material!

dang..we got two threads going on about same picture..close one of them..we don't need same discussions going on two threads.

This is the one to stay open. There's intelligent debate here. Like 'Why does this shot show such nice scenery, but the other shots don't?' and 'why'd they release those other shots if the real games gonna look a trillion times better?' :p

Can someone tell me why this game's lighting is so great. There's other pics that I could show with this type of lighting but its only going to get deleted.

Again why just the screenshot look so natural and realistic.

Maybe because the other screens are old? And maybe because:

the models are getting more and more detailed as development goes on.

 so what you're implying is that F1 on PS3 doesn't look so great because it has the same lighting? (even though F1 was all FMV).

Looking at what they released this doesn't seem to be your typical PR.

A couple weeks ago they release a wheel, with 3 different lighting effects. That's obviously only meant ot show off special lighting technoquess, not to impress consumers.

Before that they showed a piece of tarmac, again, to show details, not to impress jow-blow the casual gamer.

Last week, it was the car models mainly, the BG's weren't too impressive.

This week, it's the scenery.

I think they're just releasing shots to give an indication of the amount of detail they are putting into this game, but we'll have to wait to see it all come together.

Sounds like a crazy approach to me! Considering the negative feedback on the Car pics with the bland backgrounds, showing that when the backgrounds are in reality going to be really, really good just gives an early impression of a rather naff looking game :p Not that it matters in the long run, but I sure wouldn't waste time and money and effort hosting pictures that don't show of my product to it's absolute best.

Maybe they just have that much confidence in the finished product?

Also, i think their web guy is not very busy, according to his comments that came with these pics, so I don't think there's any issue of wasting time, a dev gives hima screen, and he posts it, no big deal.
