it's definitely a Handheld....but not quite portable.

That purplish-blue D-pad on the left comes from a Gravis joypad. The trackball on the right is one of those spotted Logitech thingies. The buttons are probably Gravis buttons too.

Looks fake to me, but who knows...

I also thought it was fake, butThey have an E3 booth (SL Interphase).
Wich means if it is a fake, it's a big production joke.

I agree with you about the trackball being a logitech one.
