NBA 2K7 First Look (PS3)

Oh god this is SO confusing.
I actually think the two companies are playing on this to try to get the other's sales. Unless really researched, people will have no idea which is which, so they'll buy the one with the box that "looks cooler", the one that gets advertised more or better...

At least Fifa and PES have very different names and we all know which is which... NBA07 and NBA2K7 is just too close.

....but I have my doubts it will be anything higher than 720p/1080i, atleast for this year.

especially since nobody from VC or 2K has said a word about 1080p... it was only brought up erroneously in this thread.

there is a dev on OP sports boards from VC that comments on the game production from time to time, I'll keep you posted if I hear any more info. Although I doubt they will comment until closer to PS3 launch.

I understand that much. But it is an extra. A feature I would love to use with 100s of different shooting styles.

That's assuming the system takes into consideration all those styles, which i very much doubt. It will most probably be a matter of not-messing-up-the-direction-and-speed and not much else, no matter what subtleties you might want to put in the shot.

By the way... the PS3 2k7 (from the crappy video) looks exactly like the 360 version from here.
bolded for emphasis.
obviously it isnt exactly the same if a couple sites have picked up on it.
just sayin.. ;)

agreed.

please do. :)

absolutely, hence my mantra for this generation of games since I have joined this board.....

let's wait until we see them both running on an HDTV (preferably at home)!!! :D before pronouncing any distinct visible graphics advantages.

Edit: of course, that's boring as then what would we discusss until November? ;)

Fair enough. But it is true that the 2K team for whatever reason was able to run more math on the PS3 version. Which then leads to a better visually looking game. Now how big the difference is we don't know yet.

yep, Im interested in seeing it too as I want the BEST looking version of the game to play (I'm weird that way) ;) but if it is hardly noticable to my eye (like slightly nicer skin shader) when I get it in front of me then I may just be ok with my 360 version.

OTOH, it's not like I have a snowball's chance in hell of getting a PS3 before March 07 anyway. :p

Thats the whole point I was trying (badly) to make. In the current versions of the game all you can control is when to start the shot and when to relase the ball. Thats it. Yes you have over 100 different shooting styles, but they are all boil down to the same method of timing the release. The only thing that really changes is the timing of when to release. And I would higly doubt that will change in the PS3 version. And to make matters worse, 2k7 current system is kind of tricky as they never give you the same camera angle on the 2nd or 3rd shot (assuming you get followed and missed a 3pt attempt).

Last year you had to control the timing and the direction, this year it just seems like its the timing you have to watch for...

I wonder how many here have actually played NBA 2k7.... if you did then maybe you can understand a bit more of where i am coming from....

BadBoy,
I understand its another method. Just I think that there are better games to take advantages of the features of the PS3. I would have ignored this, and instead of that putting my develeopment time to make NBA2k7 better on the PS3 (like the game AI has issues that they know about, lets fix them, better phyiscs so we get less skating, ect).

Similarly, I wonder if you've watched the IGN video that this gif was ripped from. It's a lot longer than this and it could save you some speculation. ;)

not that I dont agree with you, but those changes sound like stuff for nba 2k8, I can imagine different AI algorithms and physics might take a little longer than a control scheme change for one tiny part of the game. for the most part, this is still a port (which is due out in a little more than a month) so I can imagine they have to weigh their options on what they can add or fix before launch.

NBA 07 is really EA's NBA Live 07

versus

NBA 2K7 which is from 2k sports. I have never before this thread, seen anyone call NBA Live 07, NBA '07
BTW by all accounts NBA 2K7 is the better game...

Wait. What? There are three NBA games.

NBA '07 is internally developed by Sony
NBA Live '07 is developed by EA
NBA 2K7 is developed by Visual Concepts.

NBA '07 developed by Sony is supposed to be the only 1080p @ 60fps basketball game this year.

Well,

just that in the past it seems like 2k is more about the making the game better than making it "flashy". EA's NBA Live serries is all about glitz. It looks better every year than 2ks version. But ever year 2ks is just better (Better controlls, better dynamics, better game play simulations, better AI, ect). After reading the IGN article is sad to see that this PS3 version is a bit more flashy. I mean they wrote dedicated AI to handle the time outs so the cheer leaders and mascots are more dynamic vrs fixing their piss poor clock management (right now if you in a close game and the CPU is controlling the team that behind and its late in the 4th qrt, the CPU will waste allmost all of the Shot clock before attempting a 3 and thus loose every time vrs shooting quickly). They redo the cloth physics so they are more lifelike and run on singe SPE, its too bad they did not use that to increase the game play physics so we get ride of skating and better collison detection as right now there is some clipping that make things look bad at times.

I am not saying that they did the worng move here. These features will make it "flashier" for the PS3, just was hoping that they would work more on the current issues with NBA 2k7 "better" for the PS3 is all...

AHa!

That brings up an interesting point for another thread...

like I said before, things like that take time. And time is not something they have much of if they want to make launch.

Well I will give you the phyics... but there is no way in hell I would buy this was the issue for the AI. If you enough time to write a brand new AI and control scheme for cut scense from the ground up, then you dam well have time to fix an glaring AI bug in the game in clock management mode :) However it could be they just did not know it existed...which is feasable, just a major missed by their QA group if that was the case...

I'm not sure they specified what bugs they fixed, if they did any at all. Something we gotta wait until november to find out.

Man you sure are asking alot from some guys that have to make their game within the first month of launch. But being that you have the game for your 360, this game isn't really made for you.

It's made for me, Bad_boy, and others that are getting a PS3 and don't own the game.
