My son turned 13 today, got him a 360 elite

dig, doesn't your son already have a gaming PC? For the most part any game that is both 360 and PC is going to be better on the PC so I'd look for AAA titles with no PC version.

One of my 360s RRODed last week :( so I'm down to one until that one comes back, but that's still enough for red dead redemption which I plan to pick up today.

should have give him books and the 3 "the universe" dvd seasons. Also a copy of painter and a wacom tablet or what ever you think he might be good at.

13 is perfect to get him involved in the creative process and expand the mind.

As for more family oriented fair. I'll second Banjo Kazooie Nuts & Bolts. Plus Viva Pinata, Viva Pinata Trouble in Paradise & Kameo.

Tommy McClain
I will second this. Some of the games listed in the thread might be so boring for a 13 years old boy and a 10 years old girl, I think.

Especially Forza (except Forza 1, EVERY Forza game is nap-worthy), Gears of War..., (not great but not that bad) every Halo -yes, they are that bad, but colourful FPSs though, for a child they might be the best of the genre-.

Also any version of Call of Duty is pretty mediocre, imo, Borderlands is VERY boring too, in my opinion. I am following Rangers list here.

Dragon Age and PGR3 or 4 -especially 4- might be very fun. Great graphics too. Blur -by the developer of PGR- or Split Second wouldn't be bad options.

For a PC gamer like you, GRID might be a great game too, due to the 720p + AAx4.

Other games I would add to the list are:

Disney Pixar-UP
Sonic&Sega Racing All-Stars -wish it runs at 60fps...-
Toy Story 3 when it launches

Plenty of Arcade games (those are the best, I liked the list Joshua Luna made).
Sega Megadrive Ultimate Collection

There are many Indie games they might find fun.

Enjoy!

You made a good choice, 360 is definitely the best console for the kiddies, well that or PS3 anyway. I'd suggest GTA4 as the first game to buy, kids just love blood and gore!

We're avoiding any titles we've already played on PC, so if it's a good game for PC we've probably already played it. I think the only game I haven't let him play so far was "Vampire: Bloodlines" because I felt it was a bit too mature for him at the time, he'd be alright with it now I think.

He loved ME and ME2, he's a big BF2 & MW2 online freak, and today him and his 10 year old sis are just addicted to playing "Castle Crashers" and grandma and aunty Boo-boo just gave him $75 in prepaid CCs he's about to waste online on the 360.

I'll let ya know what he gets. ;)

I believe they already own a Wii. And while I can appreciate the sarcasm the 360 has a lot of non-violent games (see my list) that simply cannot be found on the Wii. Not to mention there may be a reason they are looking to get a different console...

Good point. If they want to play on a 360 I suggest you give KODU a try. Great example of a learning game.

No, they're not in stock ANYWHERE near me...believe me I tried. My wife was out with my daughter looking for most of the day and came home empty handed, I ended up doing a run to the closest Target and making it there about a minute before closing and got what I could.

We kind of decided this at last second.

I'm FREAKING OUT at the Xbox Live library you can download to the HDD on it. I can pick up a ton of older games I missed that way easy. Saints Row is only $20 direct download as is Crackdown, although I'm gonna probably have him try the Crackdown demo first. (We gotta get Saints Row, we're all nuts about it.)

Thanks for the suggestions Joshua, I'll run 'em past Just if I can ever get him off the Xbox. My wife is trying to get them to go out for a ride in the convertible, but they're holding firm that they'd rather not. (I agree with 'em, it's too hot! 95F)

dw, here in IL we don't pay tax on points bought through the console, if it is the same for your across the border then the best way to purchase everything especially Games on Demand is through points ( given the sites already listed that point (no pun intended) you to points deals it is a no-brainer; when paying by debit or credit for Games on Demand I do get charged tax. One of the best and most overlooked features of Live is marketplace.xbox.com and the ability to queue downloads to your 360 (sadly for Movie and TV it has shifted to zune.net) from any browser.

If any of you have allergies I might stay away from Chi it has been raining dandelion and I just saw the POTUS advance team yesterday which means shitty traffic for me since I live down the street and possibly shitty traffic elsewhere depending on where they go.
We are headed to Great America this weekend to get away from it all and then hopping the border to Jellystone Park in June.

Lemme know how Great America is please, I haven't been there in decades but was thinking of taking the kids this summer.

We do pay taxes on points here in IN through the console unfortunately, I'm starting the online bargain watch for points and gold memberships. :)

real quick derail, lol. We have already gone once this year, my son had a performance to do there and we got in free but I bought us all season passes; if you plan on going more than once the season passes are a must and crazy cheap ($68). We had all types of fun.[/OT]

I'm not a deal hunter so if I see something on amazon for points that looks like a deal I'll buy those and add them to my account or my sons account from marketplace.xbox.com. I can't remember if you were aware that you can purchase some online content for PSN and Live from amazon as well. Sucks I can't use my amazon store card for "digital items" (not even freaking Kindle books!!!). Oh and you should DEFINITELY buy the previously mentioned Gold sub while there is a discount if not a couple of them.

Season passes are only $68?!? Combine that with my wife's new vert and I think we might be having us a Great America summer, my kids are at a perfect age for it. Thanks!

Red Dead is good? Well tonight I gotta get him started on a history project due for Thurs, so I'm not sure if we'll get a lot of quality gaming time in before then. I've started enforcing a real strict, "homework before gaming", policy since he started letting his grades slip....really got his grades back up fast but I'm sticking with it for good I think.

HDMI cable should be here soon, then I'll go on for my first real session. :)

I actually wasn't being sarcastic, kids love violence.
