MS Says Xbox 360 Launch 'On Track'

Company says rumours of console's delay in Japan are bullshi...er, bogus.

One of Microsoft's main goals for the next-generation Xbox is to get the console out to gamers as soon as possible. The company has come out to rubbish rumours that the release of Xbox 360 has been delayed in Japan and confirmed that all three major regions will see the console's release before the year is out.

"We announced at E3 that Xbox 360 would be launching in North America, Europe and Japan during Christmas 2005 and we remain on track for launch in these territories," Microsoft's Marie-Claire Suter told Kikizo.

Earlier reports had suggested that Microsoft would hold back the console's launch until next year in Japan, which would bring it in direct competition with PlayStation 3.

Xbox 360 is expected to launch first in the US in early November, before the all-important Thanksgiving holiday, and the console will hit both Europe and Japan soon after that.

This is first confirmation of a Europe '05 launch isn't it? I thought it was 'official' for an '06 launch for PAL territories.

Cool.

I don't care what they say, there's no way there are going to be enough systems to go around for three different territories at the same time, unless the ratios are ridiculously... umm, ridiculous. Something like 800,000 for North America, 250,000 for Japan, 10,000 for Europe.

Well, I don't think they promised more supply than there will be demand. In fact, I imagine they want to setup a situation where they drive demand with meager supply. It makes for some good publicity if you can spin it enough (PS2).

I'd switch those Europe/Japan numbers.

I could be wrong but I don't see anything but the tri-core CPU that could be in short supply or hard to manufactor. If MS wants a ton of consoles day 1 they should be able to produce them. If there are shortages they will most likely be artificial.

The systems will start to be mass produced in the next month or so if they aren't already

Which gives august , sept , october , and half of nov to make systems for na europe and japan ,

Howevre they aren't launching on the exact day .

They said christmas . Which means usa begining of nov , eu end of nov and japan sometime in december .

I'm sure they can do 1 million , 800k and then like 200k for japan .

I believe the x360 cpu is around a 160m transitors ? This is about the size of the r420 . It will be on 90nm instead of 110nm . It should have pretty good yields

The xenos is in two parts . 200 + transitors and 150+ transistors I beleive off the top of my head ? Yields should be pretty good on both .

Ram willl be easy a ton of ram manfuactures should be making it .

So i don't see it that hard .

I would imagine that worldwide distribution, rather than the manufacturing process, will be the real bottleneck.

I meant only Australia/NZ which wouldn't be getting it "around 10 days" after US.

the european union .

Ms announced that it would launch in the 3 territorys . na (Canada and usa ) eu (europe ) and japan .

Now they are talking about Australia and NZ not getting it as paranoia thought it was 06 for pal launch .

Which is why i was asking if they were part of the eu .

No no no no... NZ and Oz are not part of the EU. As far as i know Oz uses PAL so they count it in with Europe. Not sure about NZ.

ya that was what was confusing me .

They are a bit far away to be part of the eu haha . Though the same could be said for alaska and hawaii

I think the oz/kiwis are lumped into the same group.

Yes, but they're not part of the EU. They're part of that completely useless conglomerate of countries called Commonwealth.

At least Australia seems to be a couple of notches above Africa when it comes to release priorities, perhaps someone can comfort themselves with that.
