MS: 10 million 360s SHIPPED already?

People shopping for a 360 won't get a Wii. - And vice versa.

They deliver completely different experiences.

Cheers

Of course, although they might consider having both for the price of a PS3-20. the famous Wii60.

But I was thinking about the public perception. When something is on the cheap side, like cheaper than the Wii which is seen as "for kids", it might alter the perception of 360 as a console that's on par with the PS3.

Normally, when you evaluate different products within the same category, you tend to look at the less expensive one as a product of a less quality than a more expensive one. You usually asume that it's more expensive for a reason, and acknowledge the quality plus, even if you end up buying the less expensive product, which might be the exact quality that you need.

At this time of year though, seeing that many are being bought for gifts, I could easily see a relative gladly getting a 360 instead of the Wii of PS3. Ignorance and the reward of completing another chore is a good incentive.

But then they'll get returned after christmas.

There's a fairly big leap from the über-violent GOW type gameplay that is really moving 360s now to the whack-a-mole type gameplay the Wii offers.

While the 360 and PS3 is directly pitted against each other, the Wii seems something rather different. I think Wii has a excellent chance of being the "second" console in house holds that already have a PS3 or 360, and it's an abvious choice for parents shopping for christmas for kids < 12 years old, kids above 15 won't be contend with a Wii if they expected a 360.

Cheers

I agree. My point was that there will be a sizable portion of 360s purchased as an alternative to the Wii or PS3 due to availability. Of that portion I would wager that the majority (slim perhaps) will not be returned. The temptation will prove too great for most kids older than 12.

You guys are funny. Of the X360s purchased for Christmas I would expect 99% of them not to be returned. Where is this weird theory coming from? It's hilarious really. MS is doing well so people start inventing stories about how almost half the X360s are going back to stores in January. Ridiculous.

MS had serious issues with the first batch of 360 - you can check the net on that. Things have vastly improved since, and I wouldnt stop myself from buying one just for fear it might crash too early. There are other reasons though...;)

System seller

By the way - are there any indications on how much GofW has influenced sales of the 360? Everybody reviewing the game seems to credit it as one of the best shooters of all time, and they probably are right - but I am curious if there is an accurate way to attribute the good sales of 360 this season to this game.

One could look at number of 360s sold with GOW attached (either bundled or as an seperate sale).

Whether such numbers exist, I don't know.

Cheers

Well X360 sold under 250k in October and just over 500k in November?

How much of that was due to GoW and how much due to Holiday shopping, who knows?

Are those numers accurate? Since if they are, I doubt GofW moved too many systems - given it was released on 17 Nov and sold about 1 mil copies in just under 2 weeks - ad least not initially.

We probably won't be able to separate the sales as you recall, all-around us there were familiar bundles. ;) There were some bundles at Futureshop even with four games including Gears of War (very short time).

2 million world wide now.
