The only time they mention Part One is when the movie starts. All the advertising just says Dune. They should have called it Dune: Blue Balls.

Still, I have high hopes for Dune: Part Two. Bladerunner 2049 took a while to set its hook, but it becomes terrific once it does.

Ok so. Managed to finish it this time.

What to say. Eternals isn’t as bad as some say but it definitely left me with a big “why was this made” kind of feeling. Also, wayyyyyyy too long.

Favourites were the speedster girl and Angelina Jolie, by far. Visuals also very impressive.

The end, or rather the fact that what happens in the end doesn’t seem to have huge consequences in the actual world is very, very odd. Heck, it would be Infinity War level of global or even just geological consequences but I guess all is well in the MCU? Who knows. Baffling.

Survived it today as well. It wasn't Zack Snyder JL- ordeal but could have been a bit more concise. I guess it has to be longish to fit the title.

Too much way too overpowered characters like most superhero films nowadays. It is tiresome. Shang Chi was a bit more tolerable for the first half, then it got out of hand as well.

Oh and finally saw WW84 as well. I thought it was bad enough to be fun; clearly the script is not to be taken seriously. Gotta say it was better entertainment than Justice League...

Turns out the Sardaukar are something white supremacists/Neo Nazis might admire, quite Nordic, and not what I expected from reading the books, which was for them to be something more like The Immortals of the Persian Empire, and the officer class of Napoleon's Old Guard. I sort of liked that the film heavily delved into what the books barely mentioned, IIRC, that the Sardaukar had a pseudo-religion that suited their warrior mystique. Though the film took that to an implausible extreme, unless you disregard the book as Canon. I also caught a whiff of censure of some who call themself Christians, with how the human sacrifices were staked out. I suppose that scene was also suggestive of how the Sardaukar, once they proved themself, saw themself as being elevated far above normal men, and I have to approve of getting that into the film.

And yet again one of the most deadly killers around, a Mentat assassin who was so dangerous looking (and with totally blue in blue eyes courtesy of massive consumption of his Baron's spice stores) that he could blend in with the natives on Arrakis, namely Piter de Vries, isn't really done justice. Brad Dourif still holds the distinction of providing the most interesting rendition of that character, even if given some bizarre lines to speak, and acting a bit like a tweaker.

But the high quality of this production of Dune should please most who watch it.

I dread to anticipate how part two will portray Count Fenrig. Lol, imo he should be shown as being like if Val Kilmer's Doc Holiday used edged weapons instead of pistols, and lived to be a hundred while honing his skills, including the ones related to slyly breaking people's balls. :)

The way Val Kilmer's Doc spoke to Johnny Ringo being quite similar to how Fenrig broke the Baron Harkonnen's chops when visiting Geidi Prime. lol ;)

Apologies for the rant, I needed to "vent my spleen" and expel the "bad humours".

Fans have to hope that he wasn't asked about the long wait for the final books in Gerrold's War Against the Chtorr series, and said "Hold my beer".

I bought the paperback of the latest in the series, back in 1993.

I have not read the books and I have a soft spot for sci-fi, but I can see why people other than me dislike Dune (hell, I liked the old one too). The new film is 20 minutes longer than the old film, but if you compare them, I did not find the new film to tell much more despite it being even Part 1.

Another film I found myself rewatching out of nowhere is Starship Troopers!

What I meant was, I liked it, but I can see why others do not. It really did not happen much in the film.

Off to see Spider-Man tomorrow and I haven’t been this excited for a movie in a little while! I’m quite surprised by the reception so far, I was expecting ok/good reviews but this is quite something.

Yeah basically can't say anything, but it was really good. And at the very, very end of the credits there's a second end credits scene which *mind blown*. I guess that's not a spoiler? you really have to stay until after the very end with the last SONY symbol, which took forever.

It's not really a spoiler to say that the right at the end of the credits is a teaser trailer is it? For

    Doctor Stranger 2

I'd have thought all that footage will be in a proper trailer within a month or so. Looks fun though!

Also, I though the film itself was lots of fun.

Yeah I didn't want to risk it but yes. I'd be surprised if that trailer isn't out in public in the next few days. Or hours.
