Inglorious Bastards - a total WTF movie:oops: Interesting premise of killing the entire nazi high command in one go in such a cartoonish way. And no, I don't like taking such gross liberties with history either.

Pitt and Waltz were good though.

Not all circular polarization systems are RealD ... the one I went to (Beverwijk) uses a Barco designed system using a "simple" filter wheel for polarization (4K RPM rotating mechanisms are never really simple). A filter wheel in some ways is actually better than the LCD based approach RealD uses, much better contrast (LCDs have a hard time getting a full 90 degree polarization twist with at the speeds required ... you can stack them but then you are going to pay for it in brightness).

RealD's system despite it's popularity seems the weakest.

Yeah, I actually misremembered. There's a nice map here:

So XpanD seems the most popular by far in the Netherlands, followed by RealD. In Belgium it's Dobly3D almost exclusively. On that site by the way, actually RealD is considered one of the best ... which is weird to me, to be honest. But then it may well be an older version that I've experienced, considering that the glasses were rather different than in this picture.

I know that. And I am fine with some amount of artistic license. It's just that Tarantino abused it in IB instead of using it.

Otherwise a fine movie. Much less gore an profanity than other of his usual movies. Not that I mind that either.

It just had to end like this. Setting up the whole assassination thing and then letting the Führer walk away would have been a biiiig letdown :)

Edit: besides, anyone who's ever played Wolfenstein 3D is not allowed to complain! ;)

Finally managed to see Watchmen. Good stuff. 9/10.

Never been exposed to the original graphic novel, I realized that many ideas in The Incredibles weren't that original after all.

One thing that surprised me was the soundtrack - a well-working mix of classic pop/rock was not what I expected from a movie like this.

Make sure you read it then, it's really a great piece. And then you'll want to read every other Alan Moore GN too ;)

I just recently came back from watching Avatar. Somehow I had largely been immune to the hype by completely missing it all. Overall I rather liked the story - the length of the film was probably a little overinduglent, but it didn't bother me too much. Perhaps the army side of things was a little poorly done, and the one bit that stuck out at me as "Eh?" was them stealing the helicopter and nobody really giving chase, bit overall I came out with a pretty positive feeling about the story and the story telling. Overall, for me, it was worth the $28 for us and the 2h 40m of my time! :)

I'm still confused about how James Cameron has this knack for making mediocre movies into huge events. Titanic was terrible. There was such a huge buzz about the effects, that everyone ran out to see it in the theater. Avatar is not that bad of a movie, but it's really the 3D that sells it. If it wasn't 3D, there's no way I would have gone to see it. Cameron really does have a special kind of gift. I wouldn't call him much of an artist, but he knows how to make and sell an event. It's pretty incredible how much money his films have grossed. I'm a fan of his action films, but these movies earning over a billion dollars is unreal to me.

I don't think there is any question that 3D is a huge factor here. Even so, he moved a lot of mountains to get this film in 3D, so credit where credit is due.

Dooood, we were all thinking the same thing. :D

Hey, all credit to him. He's a smart guy. Obviously he has that special gift for knowing what sells, and how to get it done and how to make sure people want to see it. It's pretty incredible, really.

I would also like to see Cameron return to less mainstream movies in the future as well. Most of his previous work was a bit more niche and all the better for it... As soon as he gets the tech costs down to a reasonable level, he'll probably do this.

Although it definitely is tempting to see your name on #3 of the alltime boxoffice list as well ;)

Niche?

Terminator, Aliens, The Abyss, Terminator 2, True Lies, Titanic, Avatar. Funnily enough, he wrote the screenplay for Rambo: First Blood Part 2. Now that is hilarious! I guess he's produced some other stuff.

Heh, yeah I'm not seeing too much Niche material in his IMDB listings. Strange Days and Xenogenesis maybe.

Heh, didn't know he directed Piranha Part Two: The Spawning. :D

SB

Hurt Locker 7/10 - Tense movie, nice visuals. For some reason the characters didn't do much for me, and I didn't like the way it came together in the end.
