Movie Reviews 2.0

Ash looks interesting.
When I saw the trailer it said from the creator of flying lotus, thought i may go look at that while waiting for Ash annnnnd after watching the trailer for it I don't think I have all the required drugs to make that make sense. Still keen to see Ash though.

Watched Dead Ringers for the first time in probably thirty years. Still a messed up movie.
IIRC the harrowing medical instruments concocted by the demented twin (to be used on women he considered mutants) were designed by Geiger. But maybe I don't recall correctly, I saw it when HBO showed it, so maybe just inspired by his work?

I'm actually not sure, but sounds right. Cronenberg has made some really messed up movies, so I wouldn't be surprised if he designed them himself.

Been hearing rumblings of a new, and no doubt lame, Resident Evil movie being developed.

Like, how many times does Capcom wanna keep revisiting 1998 in this series, whether it's to do with the games or the other mediums? It doesn't matter, because at this point, I feel like this company is just rehash after rehash, after rehash. Milking the same concept until you've became blue in the face.

Ya destroyed the entire city in the 90s. Remember? So just leave it alone. 🤪

I ended up watching (again after about a decade) Riddick (aka Pitch Black 3) and it was very enjoyable although it's somewhat of a rehash of the first movie.
Trivia : Vin Diesel agreed to make a cameo appearance in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006) in exchange for the rights to the "Riddick" franchise from Universal Pictures. This allowed him to produce this film independently.
More Trivia : I now want to play The Chronicles of Riddick Assault on Dark Athena despite owning it for years I've never played it only Escape from Butcher Bay which I really liked.

The last movie I watched was Atom Age Vampire. It has a similar plot to an earlier film about a deranged surgeon.

A woman basically gets her face scarred after an automobile accident, so he has developed a way to repair skin issue through radiation therapy, which obviously doesn't fully cure the problem as he needs to use the skin from various women to continue his objective.

Been finding it a chore to keep buying Blu-rays when the asking prices are like $30. I do appreciate how grindhouse specialists like Severin and Vinegar Syndrome put hard of hearing subtitles on their releases, with really tremendous art work on their cases. I'm not deaf, but I just find it more comfortable to read what is being said, if the dialogue is a match.

But the thing is, too many cases have arrived broken. Not all of them come in a slipcase either, which acts as padding. But many films cannot be found in my local HMV or Fopp.

I think the quality of some uploads on YouTube is awful. Too fuzzy looking, with regular ads interrupting the movie. I even noticed Amazon had began chucking ads on their movies. When I was already paying 8.99 a month for Prime, this feels stupid.

I don't even have all the Variety box office charts, although I have a good amount of them on a USB drive. I had a subscription which expired. But an annual fee is like $400 to be able to view every magazine in their archives.

I'm a big fan of the Chronicles of Riddick series of movies; I've not tried any of the games. Are they pretty solid? Do they replay the same content as the movies or are they a different / complimentary storyline?

Escape From Butcher Bay is underrated. Not that it got bad reviews but it didn't get enough attention IMO. Probably because at that time everyone knew movie -> videogame adaptations almost always sucked.

Good game and some of the best graphics of the era. I remember thinking it looked like Doom 3 if not a bit better. They came out around the same time.

Also doesn't use the storyline from the films
I actually still don't understand the story. IIRC he gets his super eyes in the game but I never knew exactly what happened to cause this. I played it 20 years ago and I still remember being confused about this.

IIRC he gets his super eyes in the game
Here's my take on that :
The Eyeshine for a packet of cigarettes is just a story he tells so he doesnt have to explain he's a Furian and he has Furian eyes. If you recall in Riddick 3 Vaako recalls an invasion where they met with fierce resistance and says "For everyone of them we killed they killed a hundred of ours until their weapons ran out then they carried on fighting with their bare hands and they killed 30 of us for every one of them we killed. what I remember about them was their eyes they had the same eyes as you"

Yup, I remember exactly the same sequence and came away with the same lore as you describe. The "eye shine" story is just that: a story he tells to not have to disclose where they really came from.

That makes sense. In the game I remember some lady talking and then I could go Sam Fisher mode.
