More Final fantasy on x360

If it was only coming to the ps3 it wouldn't be consoles with an s
Actually SE talks like that everytime - even when everyone can bet their life savings that it will be exclusive to console <x>. Not a good reference.

But I'm pretty sure that they are planning games for all platforms.

As for the title's platform, Tanaka is again a bit too shy to talk. He doesn't specifically state that the game is coming to the Xbox 360. He does, however, state that the PlayStation 3 will probably need a hard disk in order to see Final Fantasy XI-style games, stating he was surprised to hear that Sony is considering not including a hard disk with the system.

Be kinda dumb to develop a game for a system that may or may not have the requirements to play it .

Why is an HD required when the server stores all the info? Apart from long loading times between levels I don't understand this requirement.

Have you ever played a mmorpg ? The game is installed to the hardrive (Even ff if i recall right ) the amount of data stored is alot. wow has already had almost a gig of patches installed and is not yet a year old . Not to mention any changes to zones due to ingame events . A memory card or even a big memory stick wouldn't reaally be enough

The closest I've got is GuildWars. It uses I think 2 Gb HD space. You're right about the patches though. I guess adding material/fixing bugs needs the storage.

One might reasonably expect PlayStation 3 to be the other target platform, but Tanaka seems perturbed by rumblings from Sony which suggest that the hard drive may not be included as standard with the console.

He told Famitsu that he was surprised to hear that Sony is considering shipping without a hard drive, saying that unless broadband connections are suddenly upgraded to fibre optic speeds, the PS3 will need a hard drive in order to support the kind of character development required by massively multiplayer games.

yea guildwars just hit the one month or two month mark though right ? watch as it grows in size you will prob hit close to 2.5 gigs or so before the first expansion pack and guild wars is no where near the size of a normal mmorpg

Can't say about expansion pack sizes because they're aren't any. Updates come as they're written - not as huge updates. So it's a few megs here, a few megs there.

for now , but every game at some point has a big update .

I remember ultima online came out with a bg fix that was 50megs big and this was back about 8 months after it launched which i guess was in 1998 .

Wow has already had a few that were 70 megs and i think the biggest for gw was 12 . That will grow as they find bigger bugs or fix broken quests

Meh, not that I really care about if Xbox360 gets another FF-style MMORPG. The title is clearly misleading, especially considering that the team handling FFXI != the team that is handling the single player FF series (the one everyone refers to when talking about FF and gets all excited about it).

The last single player Final Fantasy game, Hiromichi Tanaka was responsible for, is accoarding to Moby Games, is Final Fantasy IV (91). Chronicles and Origins (01, 02) were both remakes of the older FF games on the SNES. He was also credited for Chrono Cross.

May I suggest that the next gen game announcements would be put under one topic.

Like before it was recommended not to post a new topic everytime there is a game announced for a console, and a topic named "Misc gaming news" was created. It worked great then, and kept the board clean from the repeated news postings which most of us had anyway already read on the various news sites (gamespot, ign.....)

An own topic for each console:
"PS3 misc gaming news"
"xbox360 misc gaming news"
"Revolution misc gaming news"

I've found it annoying that after E3 there has just been so many new topics it's hard to keep track of the really interesting ones.

Mods? How about it?

I've got to second this request. I don't think any next gen game requires 10 threads, one for every single new screenshot released. It's annoying and making the signal:noise ratio on this forum even worse. It's very troubling, that one of the MODs is even pushing it like a loose PR-drone.

That to me sounds that either Sony buys and installs a nice fiber optic connection to everyone, or they put a HDD in PS3 as standard.

Hmmm what's cheaper....?

or Sony packages those games like

  1. FF XI : $50
FF XI with 80 GB Disk : $60
    FF XI with 160 GB : $80
Sony will still take some hit but will make pkg 2 very attractive and might please SE too. The pricing is imaginary but ...
