Modify Villagemark?

In all seriousness...

Given what we know about how far nVidia had gone in...ahem...optimizing..I mean, cheating...in their drivers...

Is there a soul alive that would be willing to bet that should the guys that designed Villagemark change things up just a bit...Oh, I don't know...Let's say they changed the path/route just a little...that we might see some significant variance in the results?

I would like to know how possible it might be for these fellas to make some adjustments to make the "person" take a slightly different path?

I don't know about changing the path, but you can add a small extra detail with the (IIRC) "POLICEIN" option. It sort of explains the atmosphere in the village ;)

Can you shed a little more light?

I took what you said in literal terms...

IE: D3DVillageMark.exe -POLICEIN

But I knew going in that I was not connecting with your post :) It made no difference...hehe.

Is this for both OGL and D3D versions?

I'm not sure if you need the "-" in front of the option or not, but what you were doing was correct. I'm sure it must affect the "time and relative dimensions" of the test. ;)

I can't speak for the rest of the B3D staff but Villagemark is simply too outdated to be used anymore in my books -- most folks will look at the actual framerates instead of the percentages and will dismiss the benchmark... framerates are too high (or rather, high enough) for any overdraw reduction techniques to matter in Villagemark.

In fact, generally speaking, I think apps that specifically tests overdraw reduction techniques will continue to lose relevance as process and memory technology progress. There is only so much overdraw a programmer is willing to implement in his engine... as he continues to get smarter.

I tried it with Villagemark 1.17 as
Villagemark -Benchmark -Policein
and sure enough, the path did change... Look out for blue phone booth.

Actually, I think overdraw reduction (be it a complete tiler or "early-Z") is going to become even more important in the future. With medium or long shaders on a significant portion of the screen, more complex environments (which the developers would love to have)... non-detected overdraw will completely kill performance...

No, it's definitely a "police box":) since "Tardis" would be copyright of a big organisation. Pity because I'd found some nice Dalek models on the 'net.

Where's K-9? :p
Do you mean +7 revisions on from Kyro2 or the Doctor's side kick :)

The sidekick with wheels who was about as much use with stairs as the Daleks. ;)

Preferred the Cybermen, myself. If only it wasn't for that pesky vulnerability to gold, they'd have ruled the Universe!

You're asking why?

I don't know why, but believe me - they sure don't like gold. In one episode (one of the few I remember, in fact) the Doctor disables/kills a Cyberman by 'grating' a gold badge/medal into it's chest grille.

or an adulthood watching uk-gold on saturday nights after coming home from the pub....

hmm , tardis,, does this explain how power-vr works then ? it's all to do with relative dimensions
-dave-

the daleks developed a cheezy bbc effect to get down stairs :-O. however this was during the not very good 'ace' as assistant phase :(

Time And Reletive Dimensions In Space.
"Doodly-doo doodly-doo".

I don't know about K-9 but I quite liked the American girl\sidekick the doctor once had. And Tom Baker was the best, I always thought he just acted insane, then I met him for real and realised he is insane :)

Earthshock. Adric died in that story.
