Mlb 2k8

And didn't a b3d-er work on it?

Yes, that would be why we know what we know about the game. ;)

I vaguely remember another one of his colleagues posting in one of the RSX threads ("vertex limited " possibly).

Anyway, congratulations to all the devs.

The new IGN hands on seems positive. The throwing mechanic sounds nice.

http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/847/847845p1.html

Stop your throw (by releasing the stick) too soon and you'll release the ball too early, sending it high. Hold it too long and your throw will short-hop the base. Not only will you have to worry about when to release the right analog, the precise direction of your stick matters as well. The goal is to hold the stick as close to the cardinal direction as possible, but if you miss then your throw will go slightly astray. Sometimes you'll get lucky and the baseman will be able to adjust, other times it will result in a wild throw.

After playing several games the new throwing mechanic comes very naturally in no time at all. It has enough complexity so you feel like you're actually making a calculated throw to a base, but it's not to the point where making a play from the shortstop to first base is tougher than it should be.

Pitching and fly balls also sound interesting. I believe 2K are the ones with the cloth physics in their titles. iirc they are have HDR, self shadows, 720p, 4xMSAA, and 60FPS? Is that right joker et al?

1UP has some screens too. These look really good.

I've never really like playing baseball. But I like watching baseball. And this looks good enough to just sit there and watch. It's so pretty.

on the topic of baseball games, i heard MLB 08 The Show is supposed to be a lot better than 07, and a lot of people preferred 07 over 2k7. that said, 2k8 looks to be better than 2k7 (especially on PS3) so i'm sure baseball fans in general will be happy.

How come these shots look so much better compare to IGN ones ? Are these from the latest build or something ? Between the two build it look like different game, that's some progress.

The B3Der who work on this is joker454 isn't it? Keep up the good work, that is some progress you guys made there.

That's because they are from 2 different games. inefficient's pictures are taken from MLB08 The Show, not MLB2K8.

Oopps I didn't know. So those were from two different games afterall. Well competition is good I guess. And I don't generally keep up with sports games, especially baseball. The last baseball game I played was Wii Sport one. But yeah that MLB08 looks great, if it supports motion control like Wii Sport one, I might get it.

That's the opinion of the hardcore sports gamers.

I didn't try either game last year. Tried the demos a few times but didn't really get into them.

The Show is selling a few PS3s.

But you would think MLB being on the X360 would have higher overall sales.

Afrikan, I think 2k8's cloth animation is a little over emphasized but still looks more natural than the semi-static (only posture dependent) one in The Show.

But it doesn't have?

your being generous when you say "a little".... but I at least now know the term for MLB The Show's cloth animation...... yeah I caught that last year... I like the affect...but I just didn't really know the term for it..... Does Uncharted use the same procedure....?

but back to MLB 2k8... I really thought they would cut back a little on their cloth animation this year......I'm curious about their control ideas revolving around the right control stick...although I do like their idea of catching fly balls.....

http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/847/847845p1.html

"The coolest addition to the fielding -- and this is one those things that's so small yet so cool -- has to do with catching fly balls. In every baseball title of the past decade you could always see where a sky high ball was going to land. Now you'll only get the targeting reticule when your outfielder is facing in the proper direction. So if Carlos Beltran is sprinting back to the warning track with his head turned he's not going to know exactly where the ball is going to land until he turns around to see. Like we said, it's small but very cool."

What term? I'm just describing what I see. Uncharted has similar stuff but with less geometry, more textures.

Yeah they should. Maybe they paid a lot for the tech and trying to show it. :)

Anyhow, IGN has a new preview for The Show (shame on me for going off topic, but don't want to create another thread).
A shot from that preview:

For all the games I know, lighter skins have looked worse than darker ones (possibly due to lack of SSS), No more it seems.

The game looks great! I do want to play a baseball game, because I never played one. Hopefully it'll not be a limited release and the game isn't coming out only in the United States.

The best sports simulator I've ever played is NBA 2k8 -I also played some Pro Evolution Soccer games, which are considered amazingly realistic sims- and I know what I'm talking about, so I hope MLB 2k8 lives up to the 2k series standards (at least for some games)

Juice for everyone...

Yeah I am really looking forward to being able to juice my players for that little extra umf. If game is to be called "realistic" it just has to include this cool new feature! ;)

It looks like it's going to be a lot better in my opinion. In years past 2K had better eye candy but that's not true any more. 'The Show' is actually going to have a lot of signature player animations that 2K isn't going to have this year. I love that you are going to play your own music in game and that there are all sorts of new statistics you can keep track of during the season ( Ingame-post game pitching and batting analysis). I always hated how many home-runs you can hit in 2K, it's so arcadie.

Just saw that MLB2k8 is getting some pretty lame reviews (this the day after I bought it too :))...Mabye the Show will be the ticket...any actual play time experiences?
