360 was originally white, you had to buy the Elite to get a black one. Wasn't the XB1 "Maker's Addition" white? while the XB1S was also originally just white as well?

Not really a good comparison. Design Labs would be the whole console. Not just the front. With that said I'm still not sure I see them doing it anyway. You would think the logistics would be a nightmare.

Not really any worse than doing a custom controller I wouldn't think. You can already order consoles through Amazon and the like that is Fed Ex to you. To me this would be similar and I'm sure there would be a premium pricing for it.

If they did it, this would be for that elite collector.

Really tempted to change my answer now to $499 due to quality of the engineering and parts going in. MS will try to recoup those costs, they are a business after all. But being at least $100 more than your Pro competitor will be tough for them.
The design and the engineering leads to some speculation on the final price. In fact articles like the one below saying that Scorpio is going to cost 700$ are positive for the console, there is some noise regarding the price, people don't believe it is going to be too affordable because of the specs. Which means that MS is going to benefit from that noise.

That's some random person's clueless guessing. Also very untrue unless you ignore inflation.

I wasn't expecting much from the start, but I decided to take a look anyway since I have a little bit of free time before I have to head out.

I stopped reading after seeing this.

For starters, the console will have a top of the line AMD processor- probably from the new Ryzen line if AMD’s Scorpio namedrop at CES 2017 is anything to go off of. One of these costs anywhere between $350-$450 ALONE, a price point considerably higher than a 500GB Xbox One.

Not only do we now know that it isn't using Zen cores. But they are using pricing for an 8-core 3-3.6+ Ghz retail processor meant for prosumers and businesses as a starting point? :D

was just coming here to resurrect this thread, and to see if anyone was going to change their vote at the last minute?
the spread is so even!

Don't think it's an important part but I think Microsoft has lost their damn mind if they intend to sell it at that price. Better include the new Elite controller & Game Pass or equivalent software.

really? Imo the price is one of the most important parts, regardless what it is.
if net reaction is any indication, wait for the fall out after price reveal (and that's regardless what it is!)

Acceptable...but at the max limit of acceptable.

From a business standpoint it might not be dumb. They probably looked at PS4 Pro sales and figured it's better to price at premium if it's gonna be low volume. Meanwhile you can get an Xbox One S for $199..which will better at driving volume/install base..

Yeah I didn't write that well. It's certainly very important. I just don't think its a big deal to spoil the price before the conference. The price will definitely set the mood & expectation of the product & everything will hinge on giving it an acceptable value. For $500 it better have a lot of added value because the hardware itself will struggle to carry the load vs the competition.
