Microsoft Project xCloud (Game Streaming), now offering Fortnite free without GPU membership

Is that true? Numerically it's not true for Ninja so I'm told. I don't think people are that interested in changing platform, and I think they'd more readily find someone else to view. Like a cable channel buying a popular TV series - what proportion of users will give up on the channel they used to be on (with other stuff they like watching) to subscribe to the new channel?

I don't think allegiance like this can be bought. Consumers seem to be too fickle.
not 100% true. No, there will be some loss I suspect. The biggest difference being that Amazon having purchased Twitch gave out free monthly subscriptions to Amazon Prime users, and they would feed it to the streamer of their choice for the month. Moving over to mixer won't solve that loss. I'm not actually sure how many real subscribers they actually have.

Both Mixer and Twitch are free however. If it's Shroud or Ninja you want to see, you will go to another platform. If you weren't as committed to them as you thought, perhaps you would watch someone else.

It's neat if you have one phones they provide a case for. Bit of a punt though, as there's no guarantee they'll provide cases for future phones. You're then left with an expensive and not that ergonomic standard controller. :???:

Which is why you future proof the design such that it's more of a "one-size fits all" like this prototype Microsoft Research came up with.

Microsoft's X019 Project xCloud post.

More Games: 50+ titles available in the Preview

More Ways to Play: Expanding device & input types

Mobile phones provide a fantastic on-the-go gaming experience, but our goal is to continue to provide people with even more ways to play. Next year, we’ll bring Project xCloud to Windows PCs, and are collaborating with a broad set of partners to make game streaming available on other devices as well.

Enabling people to play games on the device of their choice goes beyond a phone or tablet, it extends into how you control the game. In addition to using an Xbox One wireless controller, we’ll expand support to more Bluetooth controllers beginning next year, including the DualShock 4 wireless controller and game pads from Razer.

More Opportunities for Players around the World to get involved

Since beginning the preview, we’ve been sending out waves of invites to registered gamers, and today, we’re sending out additional invites so more people can experience Project xCloud. We will continue inviting more and more players over the course of the preview, so if you have not already registered, you can sign up here.

We will also bring Project xCloud Preview to more markets beginning in 2020, such as Canada, India, Japan, and Western Europe. Expanding to additional markets over time is an important step in our journey to delight the 2 billion gamers in the world. We’ll have more details to share soon on when and how to register.

What’s ahead?

We believe that Project xCloud is a key component that will help us achieve our dream of gaming for everyone, everywhere in true Xbox style by…
  • Partnering with the world’s best: Content developers/publishers, silicon designers, hardware manufacturers, mobile operators, distributors, and many others.
  • Doing it in the way that requires no work for the developers: The over 3,500 games on Xbox One today & 1,900 games currently in development are already working on xCloud.
  • Bringing along your friends, your achievements, your saved game, and your progression so that you don’t have to start over.
  • Combining our strengths in Content, Community, and Cloud with YOU, the gamer, at the center.

Xbox Console Streaming Preview expands worldwide. This is not the same as Project xCloud. This requires a physical Xbox on your own network. Whereas Project xCloud uses cloud servers. They both use the same app though.

Xbox Insiders in all Xbox One-supported countries can try the preview and help shape the future of game streaming starting today. That means you can try out the Xbox Console Streaming (Preview)!

Xbox Console Streaming is our new system feature that enables you to play your owned and installed Xbox One games, including Xbox Game Pass titles, on your Android phone or tablet, streamed from your home console. We view the public preview as an important step in our journey to deliver game streaming to Xbox players around the world! We are learning from Xbox Insiders like you whenever you participate in these new technologies.

Team Xbox is pleased and encouraged by the response from those Xbox Insiders in the US and the UK who have participated since we launched in October. The community has provided invaluable feedback that has already improved the experience. And we’re continuing to roll out improvements over the course of the preview. In fact, Xbox Insiders joining us today will soon benefit from the latest improvements in an upcoming update. We look forward to receiving even more feedback from a broader set of players in a wider variety of environments from all over the world!

CIV 6 on mobile? What kind of morals does MS have

We here - invites are out. Interesting interview. An interesting timbit
It’s [also] really important that we test a whole variety of different content and understand how it works differently from a console environment to a streaming environment. We’ve seen some fascinating results; for instance, we’ve had our first game that was played more on Project xCloud than it was played on console. We find that of the participants in preview, more than 50 percent of them are playing longer than they’ve played before. More than three-quarters of them are finding new games to play. And we think that says something about the accessibility of the form factor.

Choudhry: You also asked a little bit about the process of titles coming into the preview. The important thing for people to realize is that what we’ve done with Project xCloud is not about building a brand new platform. It’s an extension of the existing at-scale game development platform that we have today. And we built it in a way where we can take the exact same game packages and binaries that run on our Xbox ecosystem and load them onto our cloud servers, and they just run. When Catherine and the team and I go and meet various game developers and publishers, we walk into the meeting, not with a bunch of slides and PowerPoints, but with phones and tablets. We hand those creators their games running on a phone and tablet. And those have been some of my most electrifying moments in the program over the past year-and-a-half. Because I get to see creators enjoy their creative vision on a platform that they never designed or built it for. And they’re a little bit blown away by how we’ve done it. The number of times that CEOs will look around the room and ask their technical lead, “did you do this?” They’re oftentimes quite blown away that it’s their console game and they’re playing it on a new form factor.

Samsung & Microsoft announce Cloud Gaming Partnership & Forza Street

Samsung-Xbox.jpg

David Park, Samsung's director of strategy, said on stage that the company is working with Xbox on a "premium cloud-based game streaming experience." Park didn't offer any other details, just saying more would be revealed in the future.
...
Samsung didn't immediately respond to a request for comment on the partnership, but Microsoft said they're looking forward to sharing more about service later this year.

"We believe players around the world should have access to great, high-quality games on the device of their choice," a Microsoft spokesperson said via email Tuesday. "Working with partners like Samsung is an important step in our Project xCloud journey and will help make game streaming more accessible for gamers. We look forward to sharing more later this year."

Along with the announcement of a partnership, Park revealed Microsoft's Forza Street will come to Galaxy devices. The racing game was originally released last year to Windows 10 computers. Those interested can pre-register for the game on the Galaxy Store or Google Play.

Hmm... ?

I do wonder what they are doing special for Samsung? How much more could there possibly be to tell?
It's safe to say that any kind of Xcloud exclusivity is out of the picture but i guess they also announced the Forza Street thing so it seems their partnership is not purely about cloud gaming.

Well, i guess Xbox needs someone to provide the screen for the portable Lockhart. ;P

Maybe Samsung is footing the bill for XBSX consoles in the data centers & they're exclusive to Samsung devices. The rest of the pleebs have only access to XB1S consoles in the data centers? Who knows?
