This is a serious matter as the new mod(s) would greatly contribute to bettering the forum. I would say me, but I'm not open to advertising myself too much. I have a few ideas on who I would like to be a mod, but I'll see what happens when a new moderator is decided upon. Overall, I think this place could become much better with the correct moderating and stopping of posts that really aren't contributing to the forum.

i'm sorry for taking this whole thing a bit lightly...
right, i've had something to eat now therefore i feel better. ready to confront the matter in a more serious way.
like Sonic said, i don't really like advertising myself too much since modesty is one of my personal flaws (or maybe qualities, depends on the point of view).
i believe we need someone who can objectively look at what is going on at any given time in the boards and *clean the place up* here and there.
Banning would be the last of the last resorts (yeah, even funny Chap).
i also think that *cutting and deleting* should be kept as a rare tool...
i personally feel impartial enough to undertake the placement.
and as i said, i've got the Brit Humour going on for me so thats a nice bonus...

Er... you haven't moderated on this board have you (ie. after the last swith)? Anyway, it's in a rather sorry state right now.

I could possibly mod, although I'm only available from 4:30-10:30 on weekdays. (available all weekend, though)

While I have a strong bias towards one side (Nintendo) I feel I'm more level-headed than most people in gaming discussion. I also own an Xbox, and I've owned and enjoyed multiple Sega consoles over the years. I'm also an avid PC gamer.

The new moderator should be someone who can set aside personal differences and gripes with other forum members. It should be someone who's willing to accept the responsibility of being a moderator and not someone who will do it just for the power. The last thing we need is a person who will be corrupted by the power that being a mod brings. In all honesty, it might be best if it were someone outside of the console forum or who barely posts here. Maybe someone from the 3d tech forum would be better suited to mod this console forum. At the same time though, it might be best for a mod to know the intimate and unique features of the console forum and all its quirks. It will be nigh on impossible to find someone who has no bias. Take me for example, I have a slight bias towards SEGA for apparent reasons, but don't really care about Sony, Nintendo, or Microsoft any which way or the other. I guess what I'm saying is that 2 or 3 mods would be best as it would be kind of like a checks and balances thing. I would say there could be three mods that each favor one different console manufacturer, but then I'm sure they would be at war with each other.

John Reynolds, one thing is for sure. You have your work cut out for you when choosing a mod for this forum. Best of luck.

I wouldn't mind being a mod. I don't find myself getting into many of the arguments going on around here, and if I do happen to it's nothing childish or fanboyish. I don't have any beefs with any one person here so a power trip is absolutely out of the question and would never happen (that kind of goes without saying though). I think I've had some good experience time here and a hell of a lot more elsewhere (Rage3D console board: an absolute warzone, although it's gotten a lot better lately) to know what's acceptable and what's not.

I visit at least once a day so availability for problems and general moderation isn't an issue. Yes, I do have somewhat of a bias toward the Xbox since it's the only console I own, but I do enjoy the other two consoles and would own them as well if I had the moula :) All in all I think I would make a fairly decent mod that'll help tidy up the place a bit.

Anyone who purchased a PS2 has willingly demonstrated poor decision-making faculties (and bad taste!) and should therefore not be considered for this position.

LAzy8's, if that was your attempt at humor then please refrain from using it in this thread again. This is a serious matter that's being discussed here. I don't see how anyone who bought a PS2 shouldn't be able to be a mod. Humor like that is all right, but not in a thread like this where the discussion is about a new moderator that will probably effect the future of the forum, in a good way.

there is a lot of candidates !

do you realize how much unrewarding this task is ?
you wont be able to post as a casual forumer anymore.
every action you take as a moderator will be criticized by lots of people, mainly the ones who happens to have a different bias.

personally, the only way i could enjoy being a moderator would be by abusing my power... FEAR ME ! :devilish:

Magnum PI, you bring up a good point about the moderator being under scrutiny for every action he/she takes. That's why I think that the moderator should get a new name so we do not know who it directly is. That way they could still post under their regular names.

It is VERY rewarding, you'll get plenty of ennemies and angry people, and since you're defined by the number and quality of your ennemies....

heh i haven't modded a board in a long time but if you need someone i spent most of the day with these pages open. I will do it. But i'm not a fan of deleting posts or closeing threads unless there is cursing or really bad flames going on .

I'd also like to put tagrinth up for the job (hopefully she wont be upset for this little nod to her) She seems smart and nice enough to make sure the boards don't go crazy

I think it should be sonic, he's also a concole game dev invovled with all paltforms, so I think i think that fits right.

Oh how about Faf? would he be interested?

i think this deserved quincy a lot in the past.

because he used his right to be biased when he was posting personnal stuff. but it could only hurt hist credibility as a mod.

and when he had to act as a moderator (ie: issuing warnings) after a conversation he participated in degenerated it was confusing to say the least.

yes there should be a specific moderator account used by one or several moderators, and you shouldn't know who these moderators were.

I like the idea of several mods having a single, unified account and also of their identities being unknown to the posters here. But if that's not possible, then I'd like to see a mod chosen from among posters in the 3d hardware forum or wherever. Too many possible issues with a "local" being made mod and yet remaining an active poster.

As far as people who I'd say would make (anonymously) a good mod, to be honest and with a few exceptions who I don't even really have to name :)(), I think that any of the regulars would be mature and responsible enough for the job. Seriously. I think most people here have a good idea of what's good for the forum and would work towards that goal :D

If it was the case we wouldn't need any mod...

I agree that the fora are quite balanced and most of the posters are very responsible, but sometimes people are insulting each, usually via indirect name calling.
Strict moderating is not needed, but some minor issues should be changed.
