If you're interested in moderating the console forum, please respond to this thread and maybe give a few words as to why you think you would make a fair, impartial moderator.

aaaaa00 likes Microsoft a little too much plus he seems to be somewhat of a sporadic visitor (or poster at least). Ideally, the mod should be a frequent visitor, reasonably unbiased or at least self-conscious enough that personal preferences do not affect the moderation.

Well I've never modded before but I'd give a try. Yes I'm a big N fan. And I love my Gamecube. But I also own (and enjoy) my XB, DC, N64, Genesis and GBA (soon to be GBA SP). While I've had disagreements with several in this forum I've never really "had it out" with anyone to the point of total abomination. I listen to other's points of view and respect them but wont take childlike behavior from anyone. Yes we are ALL biased in our own ways but to be open minded and repsectful of others' views is important. But that does'nt neccassarily mean that we have to agree with them.

please no mod.

i don't remember the board being any better where there was a moderator.

a few people have crossed the line and could have been banned, otherwise i
don't see how a moderator could improve the board much.

and i worry about the possible drawbacks, for example in the case the moderator wouldn't be perfectly unbiased. which can only happen.

Well, I haven't been around here as long as alot of people. But I feel I would make a great moderator.

I moderated a clan chat room for over a year with great success, with the room always having like 15+ people in it. Im a fair person, but if someone breaks the rules repeatedly, action must be taken in a correct manner. You must take into account how badly the rules were broken and if they are a repeat offender, and maybe talk to them into seeing why they did what they done, and maybe talking them into being good for a change.

Console wise, Im a huge gamer, and I own all 3 of the current systems. So there really is no bias of me towards any system.

Most imporantly, I don't have any enemy's here so I won't be bias against anyone.

That's.. about it I guess. All in all I would make a great moderator I think.

I'm a mod at Flashkit.com (400'000+ members) for over three years now. I would be interested to mod the console forum. I have some contacts in the gaming industry and am currently developing an independent GBA game. (And a gamer for ... hmmm ... over 15 years)

My English is not perfect as it's my third language, but as I learned at Flashkit, this is not really important to be a good mod.

I'd like to recommend a few.

Faf, archie4oz and Ug Lee are some of the more impartial, calm and informative posters on the board. The calm part in particular is very important.

Plug: I'd mod but I'm too busy looking after my forum :)D), plus not many people know me here (I tend to lurk too much, I've been here for about 2 years now).

If you vote for me I'll close plenty of completely useless and inflammable threads which makes the Console Forum nothing but a battlefield between brand fanatics.

:devilish:

That's what I did on occasion Ingenu... certain people don't like it. I also banned some of the worst posters that were on this board (like General N/N gamer, Misfit, an one or two others.).

The thing is, if you're a mod in the console forum you can't post your opinion on any of the threads, or else the forum regulars will start getting pissed at you for being "biased" or on a specific side of an argument.

Cybermerc, you may not agree, but the board now is 1000 times better than it was before I started moderating. it doesn't matter really since I didn't ask for the job.

Indeed it is Qroach.

How many posters really mind if you're biased as long as you say it out loud ?

Moderating a forum is about avoid flames mostly, so being biased as little to do with it IMO.

Some threads can be closed because the way something was said is not appropriate even if what have been said in itself is interesting.

oh well....

To be honest some may not mind it, but i told people I happened to like the xbox a more than the other consoles, and I like to talk about the xbox since it was the only console I had at the time. So i admitted I was biased towards it and even still, almost all of the hardcore gamecube fans still had a problem with me.

They complained about me in the feedback forum, and when Reverend came to argue his opinion on the matter, some fanboy insulted him and got banned. That's just how bad it was back then... things are uite different now.

From what I can remember, they didn't like it when I posted a topic about an xbox game or the xbox as a mod, they also didn't like it when I'd participate in gamecube discussions. It was basically a lose- lose situation for me. I honestly like things better now since I can post where I want and if people bitch at me, I don't have to care.

All i can say to anyone that takes the job is "good luck" ;)

Quincy was an a good moderator. I actually enjoyed the forum when he was here, I enjoy the forum now except for a few nuisances.

I would reccomend to have at least 2 moderators in the forum who have enough available time on their hands. One mod would be good, but it may not be enough seeing as we do have times when things get out of hand and rather quick. Also, and sory if I'm talking out of nowhere here, I think the new mods should get new usernames and not make it available to the forum members who they are. That would stop a lot of complaining from many of us here if we don't agree who the new mod is.

Just my thoughts on this.

Why me?
I have always been openminded and I've never sided with anyone. Moreover, I try to treat people with respect even when I am not of their opinion. Additionally I have been long enough to this forum to know what's tolerable and what not. Being a student at university I can freely plan my time. Thus I can have a look at what's going regularily. That said I am of opinion that 2 mods could still be a a good idea, since I am a good teamplayer.

Things I'd change:
A) Close down useless threads or threads which serve the purpose of flamming
B) Stop indirect insulting. e.g.: "If I wasn't calm, I'd call you a f***ing moron"

My Policy:
A) Banning as ultimo ratio. I would issue warnings before banning people
B) Closing topic rather than deleting them, since it helps people to understand what's tolerated and what is not
C) Mediating before a discussion gets insulting

Job experience: None so far

whoa someone's taking this seriously....

i think it would be great being a moderator, given the time... and you need some Brit good manners in here

anyway, i'd probably end up banning Chap one of these days so i guess i wont make it to the next round...

this feels like Popstars....

PICK MEEEEE!!

sorry, i should take this a little bit more seriously...... errrr... (i'd probably be the first mod with a sense of humor... )

oh, and i can spell... which is something rare in this forum.

right, that's it. i'll stop now...

This is a serious matter as the new mod(s) would greatly contribute to bettering the forum. I would say me, but I'm not open to advertising myself too much. I have a few ideas on who I would like to be a mod, but I'll see what happens when a new moderator is decided upon. Overall, I think this place could become much better with the correct moderating and stopping of posts that really aren't contributing to the forum.
