Load time in 360

All of Half-Life 2 on box is less than 2 gigs.
That's simply due to the fact that the game uses low res textures, remember that contrary to a modern PC, the Xbox have only 64MB of RAM.
It's not the result of some new compression technology.;)

It might be part both, but HL2 for the PC easily fits on a DVD as well. Even the install size fits on a DVD.

tottally agree, but what will the difference be with the higher rez textures maybe an extra gig at most?

Even the PC version with high res textures takes up around 2 gigs of space. 4.5 gigs total to install both Half Life 2 and Steam.

As I recall, HL2 install size is more like 3, maybe 3.5 gigs on disk. Certainly adding up the source-related gcf files in my steamapps folder is easily over 3. Not that it really matters in any greater way, shape or form however...

About the PS3 BRD drive, as OT as it is, you might consider the fact the DVD data transfer speed in PS2 was roughly equal to the CD's one.
You mean CD drives in general?
I mean PS2 by itself reads DVDs almost 2x as fast as the CDs - and afaik that's pretty common for CD/DVD combo drives in general.
