LG Develops World's Fastest 3D Game-Phone
LG Electronics (LGE) said Tuesday that it has developed the world's fastest "3D Game-Phone." The 3D Game-Phone is the first cell phone ever armed with a 1 million polygon/second graphic accelerator chip, which is five times faster than existing products with 200,000 polygon/second chips, and allows users to play games with more minute and realistic 3D graphics.

I don't like the look of it, but let's wait and see how it performs. :)

Well, it's the first phone I've seen that seem somewhat suitable for games.

Still, I wish phone makers would stop including all this gimmicky crap.

the problem with gaming phones is definatly screen real estate. this is the best anyone has done with it, but it's still gooffy. but as long as there is no "side talkin'"(r) it should be ok.

The average screen size is too limiting for 3D, why bother?

you didn't even check the link, did you?
it's has got 2 screens: one on top (as regular phones) and another bigger one (quickly looked, it looks like bigger than in nGage.) inside. It opens like Communicator series.

PowerVR MBX or something else?

This I am interested too. MBX sounds realistic, but which version?

wireless.ign.com reports at http://wireless.ign.com/articles/577/577847p1.html

The CDMA device sports a QVGA LCD screen that displays incredibly bright images. Which is al the better to show off the colorful, sharp visuals pumped out by the KV3600's ATI w2320 3D accelerated video chip. While the show floor was too noisy to appreciate the audio, the device did sound pretty good and features mp3 playback.

so, this is the ATI's 3D mobile chip. While in another thread ( http://www.beyond3d.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19601 ) GoForce 4500 was a bit disapointment, this seems to be much more competitive.

(and I admit, this came a bit behind the tree. I wasn't expecting seing complete hw implementation quite yet.)

Nappe,

Thanks for ferreting that info out. It's very interesting. Kinda wild at the 3D capabilities being touted in these kind of cell phones.

It looks pretty good IMO. What kind of CPU, ARM9@400-ish MHz and at least it wouldn't suck. ;)

Now, if only the large LCD was at least as big as the depressed bezel around it it would have been very attractive IMO. Also, it needs analog input if it doesn't have that already.

Of course, it actually needs games to play.

Which is one of the reasons, I think, the NGAGE was destined for flopsville.

True, but the chicken and egg syndrome usually happens with almost any new gaming device. The first article mentions they went with Nexon.net games support. Currently they only have the following ones on their web site.

Nexus: The Kingdom of the Winds
Dark Ages
Shattered Galaxy

These might be enough for the Korean market in the first half of this year, but they better start working on more games if they plan on additional territories.

and while we got in to nGage, there's has been news that 200 employees will be laid off from nGage Development...

so, it seems that Nokia's 2nd try to gaming wasn't much better than the first one. (first one was: Salora Fellow home computer in the first half of the 80's)
