Last of Us spoilers

It's the kind of question my son would ask, but I would gloss over. Didn't expect to see it on B3D. May be I miss them oredi. They are traveling overseas while daddy gets caged to his office desk (well... and PS3).

Oh, ok. So what would you say to your son?

I don't know the answer. ^_^

Probably pop a random and stupid answer so we both have a good laugh.

What about this one: I expect that ND does nothing without a purpose. So there must be a deeper meaning to this scene imo, instead just a beautiful and nice looking cheer up.

Giraffes can only exist at this place when there was a nearby zoo. But I guess that is not the point. Giraffes are typically perceived as peaceful and harmless animals. But I guess that this is not the point either.

I think the scene, where you go upstairs and then see the whole mob of giraffes wandering around is important: it shows that nature is reclaiming earth, not only the flora, which is nicely done by the settings and graphics throughout the journey...but also the fauna. It might show that 'life' on earth will go on, with or without humanity.

Maybe this thought also motivated Joel to propose to Ellie right after this scene to just go away and don't meet the fireflies.

The human race is in deep shit but the rest of the world carries on as usual? Or if not they're doing better than ever before?

I'm sure ND has a deeper meaning oher than that.
Kinda ironic that they're looking for the cure for the plague, but as the result everything will go back to the same old same old.
Maybe it is for the better to leave it as it is.

Giraffes - you do remember the scene from the first Jurassic Park with the Brontosaurus, right?

What are your thoughts on the life expectancy of infected humans? How long can they remain infected before dying natural death?

Human survivors managed to remain protected for 20 years, and during that time a lot of infected people aged for 20 years. There was an influx of new infected over the years, but they cant remain in high numbers for forever. They cant procreate, and can only fill ranks with relatively small amount of new infected who inhaled spores or got bitten.

In ~50-60 years 95% of original infected should be dead by natural causes [possibly way less]. ND is adamant that this is not a zombie disease, that is "natural" without any crazy supernatural elements.

Well the game is full of recently infected people, with quite good reasoning behind it - hiding from the military in a spore infected building, letting security slip in a hideout, getting bit by a test monkey... Then there's Ellie and her friend or Sam and Tess, so there is a relatively steady flow of new victims.

So, the remaining humans should be able to procreate at a rate that can keep both infected and healthy populations steady enough, and while ND gave us a life cycle for the infected they didn't define how long it takes to get from runner to bloater...

I'm glad most of the Stage 4s were optional (except the first and possibly the last 2). Those things were tanks, quite creepy with the sounds they made, but thankfully blind.

I never could clearly distinguish between the Stage 1 Runners and the Stage 2 (I forget what they're called). The Clickers (Stage 3) were pretty obvious.

Oh yes, I remember this scene. Interesting comparison.

The last stadium of infection is to turn into a resident fungus which produces spores. So even when the human infected 'die', the danger of infection will stay as long as there are those fungus around.

Another question: will Ellie be really the only immune? I mean, this seems highly unlikely...in some years, there must be more immune humans. What if Ellie gets a child in some years?

Stage two are the stalkers...they are running around quite fast, hunting you...for me, these enemies were the most creepiest and most dangerous/difficult enemies.

And people keep wondering if a sequel could be made.

Ment to mention this earlier, but the Giraffee/JP comparision appears to spot on and mentioned by ND in a very nice Postmortem discussion they did with Edge (which has now been pulled). Actually, I may be getting that mixed up with Rev3's Spoilers discussion (also a good watch). It was either JP or 12 Monkeys specifically mentioned by ND.

Ah, yes, Stalkers, thanks. During the game, however, I couldn't visually distinguish between them and Stage 1s. I don't recall what their defining physical characteristics/animations were.

Irrelevant! Why, you ask? Because infected are shot on site by the military as soon as they're scanned. Rather than being guaranteed and observed. Then again, given the state of things, I can fully understand why they would take such actions. But such actions have the same careless consequences as the Firefly's plan with Ellie, IMO.

By the way, did anyone else feel like Naughty Dog was playing on geek instincts? A resistance group called Fireflies, only way to be even more sneaky would've been to hire Nathan Fillion ;)

Has anyone played any new game + ? Wen do we get our weapons and stuff. I just got my backpack, but it has nothing :( ! And my Joel upgrades aren't right either ! I had maxed out health and crafting and health speeds, but all I am seeign is one slot of health upgrade and no upgrades in healing and crafting speeds :(
