KOTOR or Deus Ex 2?

Depends on your taste I guess, most people would probably agree that KOTOR is the better game overall though.

KOTOR is more of a PC type RPG, played from a 3rd person perspective with lots of exploration, dialogue, classical quests, mix of tactical and real-time combat and a large selection of characters to form a party from. It also offers about 40 hours of gameplay fun plus replay value.

DX:IW is more of an FPS/RPG hybrid, though many argue that in fact IW has turned into more of an action adventure than an actual RPG. I haven't played it yet so I can't say wether all the bad things you can read around the net are true, but review sites still seem to like the game despite the many enraged fans...

If you're looking for an RPG get FFX2. DX2 is great IMO but it's not an RPG.

JRPG's real Role Playing Games? And as for FFX-2, I've heard complaints that it's more of and action/adventure game than a rpg. And does FFX-2 have dynamic lghting?

In my opinion KOTOR is the game of the year minus about 10 hours of gameplay (its a tad short).

But it is truly a great game, it puts George Lucas's recent stuff to shame.

KOTOR hands down.

FF X-2 is great, but the 'mission'/non-linear structure just doesn't work out all that well really.

KOTOR is easily RPG of the year, with FF X-2 close behind.

omg! You know, now that you've said that, I really do agree that games with dynamic lighting should for sure be given their own genre! I mean, they're all sooooo much better than games without it!

FFX-2 has great graphics, whether the lighting is dynamic or not. It's one of the best looking games on PS2!

I had it with (mostly ps2) console owners that consider advanced 3d graphics as "unnecessary" and "gimmicky". It's a slap in the face of every pc gamer that bothers to shell out $200-500 to get the latest video card out there (I used to be one of them, but the cost of constantly upgrading every year just became too expensive for me).

Since you have pissed me off already, I think I'll post this link:

The graphics whore is strong in this one...

There are sometimes more important things than graphics to a game you know.

KOTOR is a great game. The graphics are not as good as Deus Ex, but after playing it for a short time you forget about that.

The story grabs a hold of you and does not let go until you finish the game.

The turn based fighting system put me off a bit at first, as I've never played a video game that had that, but once I found the pause between attacks/turns feature I was able to control attacks more stratigically and enjoyed the game even more.

Deus Ex's graphics look good but the story line just did not strike me as very intriguing.

I found myself going through the motions, plodding along to see what was around the next corner, not really caring what the implications of that might be.

I couldn't get emotionally attached to either of the two groups that they offer for you to ally with.
Maybe I did not give it enough of a chance, (I played it until I got the secret weapon that MAKO was developing)

KOTOR, in my opinion, is the better of the two games overall, though Deus Ex, as a diversion, is okay.

[sarcasm ON]

Wow... The Console Boards stayed "stable" for like almost 2 whole weeks!!!!

I think it's an achievement...

Beyond3d is site primarily about 3d graphics accelerators.

Well, if we want to nitpick, B3D is about PC 3D graphics accellerators.
Therefore, the console forum is little more than a playground for us little kids.
Oh and a thread that asks advise on purchase between KOTOR and DE2 should be made clear from the beginning that the buyer needs dynamic lighting in his games to fully enjoy them, so that the thread itself is not mistaken for a gameplay kind of thread.

So there...

And most of us have had it with people who somehow question the validity of "RPG" to those games have worn it for years, in pretty much the broadest-covering genre out there.

You realize you were just being mocked, right? You realize that lighting effects have nothing to do with defining a game type yet you brought it up anyway, right? You realize that YOU were the only one insinuating what you exploded forth with in your follow-up post, right?

No, I'm saying graphics matters alot. And it certainly matters enough to many readers of beyond3d.com that they are willing to spending alot of money on video cards. This ain't any ol' gaming site. This a site that focuses on pc 3d graphics. Isn't that what you're here for?

No, this is a Console Forum.

If you want to talk about PC games, there are 5 forums dedicated to it.

Now, if you need to know which RPG is best, you've been given advice. If you need dynamic lighting in a game to be able to enjoy it, then you've been given advice on which games do and which do not have it.
