Need a translator? :)
What language? Human or computer?
Human :)
I speak 6 languages: Italian as my mother tongue, English, French, Spanish, German, and Latin (but you don't need this, do you?). I also can read some Portuguese, Dutch and modern Greek. :D

Wow! That is really impressive. You'd be able to speak most of those at IMG as there are native speakers of (nearly?) all those languages here.

Now if you could master "strine" you'd be set :)

D10 for an encouter? This must be really old rules, it's all aboot the D100s -- I have one, within arms reach, sadly. Now, allz I gotta do is convince my nephew that it's NOT a ball.

Very interesting...
How does this graduate research stuff work in the UK?
The job spec title "graduate research" just means we're looking for a recent graduate to be employed in the "research" department.

Ah, ok. I'm not used to job offer language yet :D
But is it just my impression that the skills and experience requirements for this job are quite low?

The SJF01 job? For that role we're after someone who is intelligent, can program and, preferably, has some knowledge of the basics of 3D graphics.

But companies are rarely looking for someone who is not intelligent ;)
I'm just surprised that you don't expect a bit more than "Knowledge of basic 3D graphics algorithms" from someone who is supposed to research and develop 3D graphics related algorithms.

Well that would be very nice but trying to find someone with that level of knowledge is rather difficult.

I'd consider my skills and experience more than adequate for the mentioned requirements, but I'm no graduate yet.

From what I can tell you'll have plenty of opportunities after you've graduated and no I'm not really good at flattering people :p

I got a 3rd for my EEE honours degree. Excuse being telecoms industry took a nose dive and I lost interest. C / VHDL were my only interesting subjects. Been working for a company doing embedded programming (os9), and windows CE for a couple years. Any job / grad opertunities for me? ;) Game compatibility tester, Stress analyst (more game testing), or store room cleaner? :devilish:

So I have a serious question for you guys over at IMGTech, do you have some sort of GPA requirement for new hires? I'm in the US and most companies here require you to have a 3.0 in order for them to even so much as give you an interview.

They don't seem have the concept of a GPA in the UK so it's not asked for. (I'm familiar with it as we have the same idea in Australia, although I've not seen it asked for in interviews there. BTW what is a "pass" mark in the US? At my uni', a 4 was a pass (with 7 being the highest)).

Generally, in the development roles, IMG tends to ask for people with a 1st or 2.1 honours, but then that also seems to be different in the UK to my experience in Australia. My post-grad honours year at the U of Q sounds like it may have been equivalent to a masters here <shrug>

In the US it is usually on a 4.0 scale with 2 being the lowest passing score.

What makes it all so frustrating for myself is that I'm very close to having a 3.0, but unless you actually have a 3.0 or higher the companies won't even talk to you. Intel, HP, Garmin AT, Mentor Graphics, Raytheon are all like this.

Generally, in the development roles, IMG tends to ask for people with a 1st or 2.1 honours, but then that also seems to be different in the UK to my experience in Australia.

Could you maybe explain that a little more, I am not familiar with grading scales outside of the US at all.

By the way, what are the odds IMG will ever open an office in the pacific northwest? I'm quite fond of this little corner of the world and would hate to leave, even for something interesting like IMGTec.
