ISSCC 2005, 6-10 Feb 2005

Presentations:

-A Streaming Processing Unit for a CELL Processor (STI)
-The Design and Implementation of a First-Generation CELL Processor (STI)
-A Double-Precision Multiplier with Fine-Grained Clock Gating Support for a First-Generation CELL Processor (IBM)
-A 4.8GHz Fully Pipelined Embedded SRAM in the Streaming Processor of a CELL Processor (STI)
-Clocking and Circuit Design for a Parallel I/O on a First-Generation CELL Processor (Rambus)

There are some further details, I am not 100% sure if got them right, so beware:

-Operation of the 16TFLOPS rack prototype will be demo'd
-The manufacturing process of announced CELL SOI technology will be 90nm, not 65nm.
-Three of five announcements are done by STI.
-IBM starts CELL trial production for workstations in the first half of 2005.
-CELL powered home server (Sony) by the end of 2006.
-CELL powered HDTV display (Sony, Toshiba) by the end of 2006.

-Operation of the 16TFLOPS rack prototype will be demo'd

I am sure the site got it wrong. But it would be nice if they are right. Just several more weeks away.

Well, ChryZ took it wrong. It only summarizes the press release about the workstation, not particularly related to ISSCC 2005. Basically the site has no new info. Anyway, the link to the correct site to be linked from this topic is here: http://www.isscc.org/isscc/

Bummer, anyway at least the presentation topics should be correct.
Hopefully there will be some detailed coverage on the web afterwards the event.

Speaking of which, where is coverage of this likely to come from? Presumably the press is allowed to cover the event..hopefully IGN/Gamespy/Gamespot will send people to report PS3 related presentations? We all know this stuff "isn't PS3", offcially, but it should be a nice insight into what's possible and what's not, and I think the larger gaming outlets should be covering it, even if only for that smaller audience that can digest and understand these things. Oh, and on that note, hopefully they'll send someone who actually knows what they're talking about, or at least what's significant and what's not ;) I'm hoping Gamespot at least will come through for us, since they've posted an IBM presentation on Cell before on the hardware section of their site.

Since ISSCC is the academic/professional society for the semiconductor industry and is ranked as the top among those conferences about semiconductors, I bet gaming media won't be allowed to get in... instead you can check which web sites initially reported the Emotion Engine presentation in ISSCC 1999.

Anyone who is willing to pay can attend ISSCC.

And no one does "demo's" at ISSCC, so that part of the original post is false.

Anyone can, if the seats are not fully reserved for IC company managers from all over the world ;)

i will have the pdf "The design and implementation of a first generation CELL processor" during the day.
i will post more info is there is something groundbreaking inside it :)

You'd be surprised, unless such docs hit the web elsewhere beforehand, they'd still be of interest :) Sure, we'll have news reports etc. but they're not quite the same as the original material ;)
