That is intentional. It's like asking for a drag'n'drop image interface when coding HTML in an IDE.
Ah, I thought it was that toggling the BB code switch changed it from an active preview window into just a plain text document type thing.

it just nothing shows up at all
if you later select edit with toggle bb code enabled you see this

which is what I thought you should see when creating it
(missed of the brackets beginning and end so it would display properly)

That's my point. The ATTACH bbcode is added when you insert the image in the normal editor. The BBcode editor isn't a rich text editor with all the functionality, it's to manually modify the code that is produced in the main editor.
