Is Gamespot spreading BS regaurding the RSX?

The logic behind this one is simple: Nvidia designed the next-generation RSX graphics processing unit (GPU) for the PlayStation 3; Nvidia's next-generation G70 PC GPU is based on the same technology; Ergo, whatever demos Nvidia has at its event should be the "clearest indicator" of what actual PlayStation 3 gameplay will look like. Can't argue with that logic, right?

I thought it was common knowledge that the RSX is a modified G70, which was already in production when Sony decided they needed a GPU for the Cell.

Is this really the truth? Or do they have it backwards?

well no games were on demo using the rsx , they were using 6800ultras . At least my understandof its they are 6800ultras .

My point is, I was under the impression that the RSX was a modified G70, not the other way around.
I don't think Gamespot really indicated that the chain goes that way. I think they're just saying the two share technology and make no point about which product the tech was primarily developed for.

Rumor Control is most useless part of Gamespot.
They just give forum rumors a larger audience and then they conclude their texts with "Probably bogus, or not. We don't really know. Anyway we just wanted to spread rumors too".

And about RSX/G70, nobody, that isn't under strict NDA, can answer any questions. In other words, Gamespot's journo is just extrapolating.

I hadn't really thought of it like that, but you speak the truth! :D

When on June 21 nVidia launches the Geforce 7800 GFX we will know more! This will reveal the mysterious G70 and shed a strange new light on its strange relative RSX!

Unfortunately, unless NVidia talks about RSX, we won't really have any greater idea than before...technically at least. We'll still be left with guesswork as to how their PC parts relate to RSX.

Anand did say he couldn't talk about the RSX because of a NDA on the G70. So that leads me to believe they must be quite similar.

I think they are, but unless NVidia starts also talking about RSX at the same time as G70, we may not know officially ;) But from the sounds of it, NVidia may start opening up about RSX at the same time, and if so, happy days! :)

Anand said that? It's not like him to make such blatant connections through implication, though I guess if he said it he said it. Knowing that RSX can't be a straight G70 though, the next level of speculation I guess will be waiting or G70, some tech specs, some benchmarks, and then hypothesizing about what modifications may have taken place for interaction with Cell and inclusion in PS3.

It'll be something to kill time with at least until NVidia actually discusses RSX straight up. ;)

On the other hand, if someone like Anand really IS linking the G70 NDA to the RSX, then maybe we'll get some details anyway - though I have a strange feeling like none of the major tech sites really have the in's on the console chips like they do their usual assortment of PC chips.

It would make sense if it was on the g70. The g70 should be coming out in the next few months . The g80 would most likely be a 2006 part late 2006 . Sony would have to start making units at the end of this year to have enough ready for a launch in any teritory for march or around march .

Perhaps its based off the refresh of the g70 ?

"Information on NVIDIA's RSX will be even lighter because it is the more PC-like of the two solutions and as such, a lot of its technology overlaps with the upcoming G70 GPU, an item we currently can't talk about in great detail. "

"We can’t say much about the G70 as we are bound by NDA"

Sounds like there won't be official talk on RSX then :( We'll hear about the tech in G70, some or all of which RSX shares, and then be basically working with a jigsaw to to try and determine what fits where with RSX.

Hopefully
NVidia will be more comfortable talking openly about RSX once they've unveiled their next parts. I guess it depends how much freedom Sony has given them to talk about it.
