If they can get the gamelplay to match the spectacle, then fine, but the giant creature fights in Infamous 2 were just awful.

It honestly felt like they tried too hard to create God of War boss-fights in a game that didn't need them.

Infamous 1 and 2 have horrible enemy A.I. overall though, most enemies should be able chase the player no matter where they go. There should only reasonable a chance to escape or defeat them with stealth and proficient use of their powers, but that's something that Second Son might actually change if Sucker Punch can pull it off with new hardware.

I suspect the giant monster fights were limited in what the monster could do because it had to fit its rampage in memory, so you mostly just got locked into those fights, either by floating there, or getting locked into a tunnel vision viewpoint.

Let's hope that if they do put in giant monsters, fighting them becomes a more dynamic situations similar to Shadow of the Colossus, where you use the traversal skills to climb on the monster as it is moving.

One thing they haven't shown in videos is that Delsin has to absorb smoke to fuel his powers. In all the videos so far, after every major use of Delsin's powers, you see him bathed in a fiery smoke effect, which I assume is the developer's demo cheat that automatically restores his powers fuel. I wonder if they're sticking to that, or they have other methods in mind? As they mentioned already, there actually aren't that many big sources of smoke around in our modern world. Although I suppose you can just start some fires. ;)

Also, it'll be nice to be in a city that's actually fully functional this time, and not worrying about wandering into powered down areas that turn your entire screen greyscale.

If they want to do giant monster fight, they should look at the manga/anime, Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titans). The inFamous hero can already meneuver in 3D, like SnK's gas powered flying device. He also melee and fires weapons. Should be fun to play.

I didn't complete i2. Can you defeat the boss with pure melee, or must you use assorted projectiles (like a shooter) to win ?

If mean mean
Bertrand in Godzilla mode
then no; there are specific mechanics needed to weaken the boss which requires using ranged attacks.

That last pic of Seattle in the evening (guess) looks very nice  I wonder if the Microsoft campus, or a fictitious equivalent, will be included. It looks like the game stretches beyond the bounds of the city itself.

Bah, make it like Shingeki no Kyojin or Demon's Souls. Melee kill (with optional ranged attack) is more exciting. 8^D

You can kill with melee in inFamous but not enemies that are 20 meters tall and that can survive
a nuclear bomb direct hit.

"exciting" isn't the word I'd use! You can melee almost everything, even the Devourers, which the game encourages you to throw cars at ;-) But it's a boss battle, so you gotta have wacky boss-battle mechanics :)

But seriously, you have all these cool powers and you want to whack it with a lump of metal???

Heh heh, that's too bad ! Engineer some weak point into the boss. With all the super powers on-hand, I always thought inFamous play too much like a shooter. :runaway:

Yeah ! Whack the boss with direct contact for massive damage. It doesn't have to be a lump of metal or rock. It can be a punch injected with whatever power I wield.

Well the basic gameplay is TPS but I honestly used melee a lot in inFamous 2 while in inFamous 1 melee not that good.
With "smoke dash" melee combat in Second Son will most likely be even more satisfying, much more akin to H&S combat.
Also who knows maybe one of the alternative powers is melee focused.

I have yet to play through Infamous 2 (barely even started) but Infamous 2 Festival of Blood was excellent, and that one is closest to what I'm seeing from Second Son (Festival of Blood turned you into a vampire, and included the ability to briefly turn into a flock of bats and fly anywhere at will, including up/into an enemy, very cool)

I know, right!! I have friends who hate shooters like Gears and Uncharted but love inFamous. It's the same mechanics! They've just swapped a gun for a hand that shoots lightning :???:

Alas, it's not a giant enemy crab. But really stoked for this game. Was so disappointed they they announced it was out til Q1 2014. But all accounts it was one of the most complete-looking and polished games at E3. But I guess they have to stagger the roll out of good games.

No sh*t ! They should at least let me create a lightning saber + 15 out of a cleaver or something. :p

Or turn a teriyaki half-chicken into a lightning phoenix.

But it's also an openworld platformer. ;) In that sense it's more like Crackdown, with tonnes of hidden missions, collectables, etc. and even user generated missions. Also, you can play Infamous 2 and Festival of Blood with Move controller, which is great.
