inFAMOUS Second Son [PS4]

I am still not convinced SMAA 1tx is better overall. They said in the PDF it's a more robust temporal solution (not better or more effective AA solution) and that it's similar to TXAA temporal AA.
Read that pdf carefully, because Tiago wrote about SMAA T2x there too.
Why did they use T1x? Its explained on slide 18.

We will have more info about SMAA T1x soon. I hope that GDC SDK update with PBR will have SMAA T1x too.

Here's a pretty good article on AA methods. http://www.tweakguides.com/Crysis3_6.html

I'm pretty sure SMAA 1TX sits in-between SMAA 1X and SMAA TX2... which would make sense for XB1, given it current specs.

Just like it makes sense to use higher quality DoF and Motion Blur in Ryse than in Crysis 3?

You mean for Ryse? I thought it was obvious. Because SMAA 1tx needs less memory than SMAA 2tx.

Just for the temporal stuff, SMAA 2tx needs 2 previous frames (used also with KZSF by the way, they need also 2 previous frames and the algorithm choses the best samples to reproject with the new one). 2 temporal AA buffers, 2tx.

When SMAA 1tx (confirmed in the Crytek PDF) only need one previous frame (where they each time blend the new frame with the temporal frame so there is information of several frames "inside" one). 1 temporal AA buffer, 1tx.

It's a different approach of the temporal problem. Both have pros and cons. But one solution needs less vram (fast) memory than the other. It's maybe just a coincidence though: maybe for Ryse they really prefered a softer image with no temporal artifacts than a sharper image but with some occasionnal temporal AA artifacts.

Also we don't know the GPU time cost of SMAA 1tx compared to 2tx.

No, he is Native American. He doesn't really have any northern European traits (other than his voice actor). He lives with his tribe, he only travels to Seattle as part of the story.

Have you seen full blood native americans. They look like a mix of indian and east asian. Broader cheekbones. He's a mix breed as we see from the nonnative last name.

There has been alot of intermarriage and many native americans also have some degree of European ancestry now.

I dont know crap about the differences between SMAA 1tx and SMaa 2tx but I would think Ryse having a softer image than Infamous would have more to do with Infamous being native 1080p and Ryse being 900p software upscaled to 1080p. I could be wrong though.

The city is much bigger than I originally thought. They do something similar to the first two games, I won't say more. Nice surprise. I think during an interview one of the directors said it is 50% larger than New Marias, which I thought was large. But it makes sense, getting around town is much faster now, you rarely have to climb anything like Cole did. There are also fast travel points, but I have yet to use one. Neon running is so fun still.

I'm just going to buy it and start the download before I go to bed Thursday night/Friday morning, then sleep, then wake and play it to death :D Unless the reviews are terrible. I believe the review embargo is Thursday - which always makes me doubt a game. Reviews the day before launch = too late to cancel preorders.

are the cut scene all done in real time or more prerecorded videos? Thats 20 gigs install tells me it might be real time.

Which is really the only thing worrying me right now....

(and I mean the only thing in my whole life, as a bad infamous game would actually ruin my life)

Dev confirmed that 99% of cinematic are in-engine.

What I meant was that a review embargo sometimes means there is something fundamentally wrong with the quality of the overall game. Who cares if the cutscenes are realtime?? Only B3D geeks.
What I care about is playing an awesome Infamous game, and I'm sitting here hoping the SP is just being anally secretive about the game, not trying to hide that it's rubbish until people can no longer cancel the preorders. Cause that would be bad.

Thursday is not confirmed but it's the only day/date that I've seen online. I'm definitely not worried about the game technically, but I am fretting about whether it's a worthy successor to two games I've played and played and played and really like.

It's weird that none of the big sites are even saying when their reviews will be up :???:

Holy shit...this looks really great!

I have preordered the collectors edition

First game in a while that gets me interested again...

Just go to Playstation Live and watch someone play. With as many people playing it early as there is, If there was a fatal flaw with the game we would have heard about it already.

It is not just a good Infamous game, it is great so far. I've put about 10 hours into it, but I have not progressed very far in the story. I have been playing around and liberating the various sectors.

I think the embargo is up to keep the spoilers low. It also helps generate big buzz the day before release. Last gen they would let the embargo up three weeks early (KZ3) and the buzz would be near dead by the time the game came out.

Excellent! :D The only thing I've heard is that it's "short" at around 10-15 hours for each good/evil play through. But I know folks who blew through the Infamous 1 and 2 campaigns quickly too. Personally I like to savour the experience.

I think most reviewers (at Edge, Eurogamer, GameInformer andIGN certainly) are good at doing spoiler-free reviews.

Simply put; this is by far the best looking first generation title on any system. The IQ is just unmatched at this point... x 100

The fog pic is something else... best looking fog ever.
