Image Quality and Framebuffer Speculations for WIP/alpha/beta/E3 games *Read the first post*

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Sure the gameplay footage we saw at E3 etc., looked amazing, but recent screenshots look very underwhelming.

Ehhhhh, it's not really up for much debate. ACU's characters, hair, shadders and even vegetation are better looking than Watch dogs. The modding community had to step in to give WD a face lift.

ACU is making really good advances in other directions for a sandbox title in exchange for the compromise and people aren't seeing this. actually this pixel compromise is less of an impact to IQ than i had predicted months ago; after seeing the current gen version of watch dogs.

Those are cutscene models.

If this is what the game looks like, then Watch Dogs and AC4 look way better.

Basically I'm not gonna believe anything until the game releases, because I know Ubisoft is full of shit.

I will be the judge of that, when i take a look at it up close. :smile2:

well that picture works just fine.

that's a mega difference in lighting, watch dogs doesn't even use subsurface scattering, not even on ultra settings.

You've got to be kidding me. AC4's lighting isn't even linear, the entire looks are completely cartoonish, including lighting and shaders...

.....yes AC4's lighting and graphics are an obvious downgrade from ACU. I hope everyone knows i was being sarcastic about AC4's "realistic" visuals. character facial capturing is also not good in AC4, i thought AC3's was better.

Yes but AC4 was at least native 1080p locked at 30fps with SMAA 2tx when ACU is upscaled 900p, muddy AA at ~20fps.

Well at least ACU has better lighting...

Ubisoft have gone downhill since AC4, since the parternship with Nvidia in fact, IMO. :???:

Im not sure if it has been posted but Halo 2 Anniversary will run at 1328x1080
http//:www.videogamer.com/xboxone/halo_the...aign_wont_run_at_full_1080p_343_confirms.html

Oddball resolution but basically equivalent to 900P in pixel count. Perhaps as I read, something about needing to be 1080 to easily switch engines with the 1080p old Halo engine?

Why does the excuse 343 used that the old engine has to be switchable, make sense?

Isn't that just a RAM problem and not a GPU one?

Better lighting, better character models, better animations, better shaders, better cloth simulation, much better crowds, better geometry - basically the kind of stuff that's immediately noticeable at a normal viewing distance.

1080p or not, compared to ACU, Black Flag looks fake as hell.

Whoops. Sorry, that was way ot.

Yeah, picking resolution from that huge list as the most important element of visuals is beyond my comprehension.

ACU doesn't look any more real, weapons and people look copy and pasted over the backdrop (probably due to the lack of shadows in that image), and it's blurry so lots of detail is being lost.

No point making all those improvements, if it's not having the desired effect.

The location and buildings do look amazing, I am not convinced about the rest of it though. And I don't think the resolution is going to help, maybe a better AA solution would or removal of the Vaseline smearing filter.

Look at the guy attaching with the pike. Are you seriously telling me it looks better than this?

Sure you can see the models are better, but you cannot make out any detail in his face at all.

It's from the PC version, best I could find with characters in a similar distance.

I am sorry but Watchdogs and ACU on consoles are a muddy mess (and a choppy mess for ACU) and I am not sure about better geometry for ACU compared to the vegetation and details of AC4.

No amount of shaders, lighting or animation will be better than AC4 image quality immersion factor IMO. And except for a few lights in ACU, I have not being that much impressed. Maybe you believe the "Ultra settings" PC build shown in the gamersyde video was from a console build?

We haven't seen yet properly (with a HQ video) a console build in motion, only a few compressed screenshots.

This is how I put it, AC4 at 1080p/30 2xmsaa is slightly better looking overall than ACU 900p/30 post aa, with a lighting upgrade in AC4 it would be considerably better looking even without the crowds or new animations. The drop of 40% pixels and that piss poor aa really brings ACU down dearly imo.
