I see Console forum is becoming less democratic

Or i could be late for work because i was reading the forums and had to rush out :) happened today haha

Another reason I think we should just scrub the ban in general... it probably no longer applies to the original targets, and it probably doesn't apply to the current mods. But hey, 'sup to you. ^_^ Just letting you know my take on it.

The word <bleep> is blocked for obvious reasons. It is a clear insult to someone and is not tolerated.

in fact i see this is an insult to who is writing it.

people using this term, or by default terms like "dedicated fans" (which are as much as insulting), only prove they belong to the fringe of the most intolerant and narrow-minded people.

I have no real problems with the site.

I think y'all just got too good for yourselves. News and analysis from this forum started getting posted as new threads on high traffic forums, so people came directly to the source.

The F word (not the bad one) and dedicated fan may mean the same thing in the big picture but in practice they are usually applied in two very different contexts. Sometimes I guess people will use the more intelligible term in order to insult someone.

It depends on the context the term is used and the situaiton. Each situaiton is different and needs to be judged on a case by case basis. I do think it might be a good idea to lift the ban on the word. If people used it in a derogatory manner it would be much easier to go ahead and warn them and ban them for continued offenses.

These boards would probably be more enjoyable if some mods weren't so blatantly biased.

I know everyone has a certain amount of bias with pretty much everything, but when you are given a position of power, you have a responsibility to ensure that your biases do not affect different camps.

In a perfect world I guess.

i was called for trolling few weeks back for the first time, i found it upsetting that some here were so quick to label me that and not look further into the topic(with an open mind). do we start with witch hunts next and burn them all. i feel that there should be a little more freedom given to people to express their views and ideas - even if some hard liners here dont agree with them.

edit- its 2005 NOT 1505 !

What do you know about these boards and biases, you with your 1 post count... you n00b
;)

I would ask 'why bother'? If you want other non-technical talk, why not just inhabit one of the millions of other forums out there?

That would be assuming a word can only be used one way, and honestly I can think of absolutely ZERO words where this is the case. One could perhaps still be using the word in a tacky-and-not-too-productive way anyway, but that doesn't mean at ALL that the person using it is simply being narrow-minded or intolerant. Heck, there's an awful lot of fandom that wear it as a badge of pride, like "otaku" is worn out here (while in the Japan it still retains more of its insulting origins). I'd certainly be the first to say I'm a "fanboy" about certain things... it is quite honestly a good descriptive term among our peers.

It is always, always, ALWAYS going to be about how a word is used, not what word is used. We're all adults here... right?

I mean... look at the last 2 or 3 threads created on here. It's actually getting worse.
I think this above all else is why I'm still a die-hard PC gamer, the quality of the PC forums is just soo much more high-brow.

That's only because the PC FB's got a lucky break when the ST FB's and Amiga FB's saw their computers go down the tube :p

I think i see who you are talking about.
Who ever said a mod cannot have and express his ideas ?
Reading posts here for years, i can say i never thought the mods were using their "power" to support what they think. It is unfair from you.

In a final point, lots of people here and there (including me) are praising the quality of the debates at B3D.
If it is clear that is in a big part due to the quality of most posters, the role of the mods cannot be forgotten because we have this quality for years.

So, to me, keep on guys !
