How do you play a Gamecube with the lid open?

Damn it, my kids busted the lid on their Gamecube....anyone know where the switch is to detect if the door is open/closed so I can jam/short it out and let them play?

I did try googling, but my voodoo must be sucking today.

Busted which way? Does the lid fail to stay down or did it break off?
My brother's Gamecube has been afflicted with the first issue, and it can be solved by just putting something on the top to keep it down. Such as VHS tapes or any other old junk :)

Man if you have the money to buy every new gpu that comes out, surely you can buy your kids a new gamecube, those are basically free.:)
Wii is around the corner though...

I think the most simple and sturdiest solution is to purchase a simple case mod. Viper GC case Mod is about 20 USD atm. Just change the whole casing.

Isn't there just a slot I can stick a screwdriver in to trick the lid with? It really is behaving like it doesn't know the lid is closed.

I'm trying to haul flood damaged stuff out of my basement today and would just love to get it working for them so they'd give me a chance to. (I'm in a lose/lose situation today, just making the best of it)

Oh, and I just don't want to get a new GC with Wii so close...we are getting one. :)

You think I buy all these GPUs?!?!?

No way, last card I bought that was high end was my X800 pro VIVO for $469 and I'm still shocked my wife didn't divorce me over it! I won a few and got a few from ATi is how I have them at the moment, I got a zero hardware/toy budget at the moment.

The leftside latch is busted off completely, the rightside is still attached but the lid won't close right.

I can get it to close right and keep it closed with a weight on top, but it still don't spin.

(BTW-My son just screamed, "I GOT AN IDEA!!!" and ran off while I was typing this one. He's counting on all my "smart friends" to fix his problem and save his day. :) )

Well, I did find something. It's somewhat more risky than the modding the case...

Here's the switch:

Just make sure it's pressed when playing

Thanks Hupfinsgack, that's exactly the thing I was looking for. :)

I'll give it a try after lunch, I had to take a break from cleaning to cook for a bit anyways.

(Oh, and I also cheated and called my sister to see about borrowing her GC for a few weeks...just to hold us over until the Wii! ;) )

EDITED BITS: Ah-HA! The lid came off entirely from my son's "idea" and I can see the busted switch now. The plastic pieces have entirely broken off inside, I'll just add in a switch inline instead of where that connector should attach. :)

How did your kids busted the Cube btw? with a sledgehammer? those things were supposed to be quite solid built...

Let's hope that one did not clobber the other. You know, the handle makes it an excellent melee weapon. :devilish:

Oh so that's why it's there! It makes sense now:)

edit: Digi just realised that you had a flood in your house, read the thread too. How long did it rain in there?, man floods suck bigtime if you have a house...

Nah, he just tripped over the open lid breaking one side. This is the second time he's tripped over it messing up the top, last time we could still make it work by putting something solid on top of it.

I see how the little plastic lever thingies though are now entirely broke off and I'm just trying to figure out how to access that lil white connector with the two blue wires on it. If I splice those blue wires together, I figure it'll be all good.

Just gotta get at them wires, and me without my star driver yet with a pair of tinsnips....

Just the one day of bad storming, but it was enough. More than half the houses in town had their sewers back up about 18" of sewage water into their basements and a few houses foundations actually collapsed. :???:

We got half-way lucky, one of our basement windows fell out and a ton of water came in..but our sump pump got most of it out too. Just soaked everything real good.

The insurance company told us not to touch anything until they looked at it, by the time they looked at it it had turned into a scary moldy/icky mess...and they told us we were totally uncovered.

So it's just a loss that needs to be cleaned out. On the brightside it IS nice to be able to toss anything in your front yard for a few weeks and know the town will pick it up without bitching. I'm looking at it as a fresh beginning. :)

Something wrong with sewer-system? Only one day of raining shouldn't make such a mess imo.
Anyways I'm glad you guys didn't get the worst of it. Had I seen earlier that you had flood, I wouldn't have made that just buy a new one comment.

Good question, I think there is some class action lawsuits going down over it. They just completely reworked the flood system last year....

I'm just glad we didn't get the sewage back-upage. That always grosses me out. Had it happen about 9-10 years ago here and we had to get our entire drainage system replaced, hence why we didn't get any sewage backup. (We have a shallow ground system now with a sump-pump in the basement. Safer.)

Time to go fuck up a Gamecube, wish me luck and I'll take some picts if it works. :)

VICTORY IS MINE!!!!

Sorry it's blurry, but my son kept joggling my elbow trying to get me to hurry up and give it back to him since I fixed it.

Thanks again Hupfinsgack, that was just the ticket I needed. I couldn't reach the wires to splice them with my fat fingers, I couldn't get the unit opened up because I couldn't find my star drivers, so I just used my channel locks to chew open that corner of the case until I could reach me pudgy fingers in there and stick a little jumper into the connector that I stole off an old piece of scrap hardware.

My kids are very grateful, and I also. Thank you again. :)

No problem, I am glad I could be of assistance. Have fun playing and your kids as well.
