An option for 30fps quality mode in cutscenes would be nice. I see this request alot on fb/forums and comnents sections. Users seem to not want much to do with the 60fps mode due to its fidelity settings. For consistency such a option could be patched in right.

In my experience, games that do that (Mortal Kombat 10 or 11 maybe?) were always a bit weird, as the sudden change in fps can be quite jarring.

Atleast, the 60fps mode is an option, we dont have to use it. Its an intresting mode though. Still i think GG made the right decisions regarding the quality mode. The 60fps mode doesnt do the game justice, it just looks so much better in quality mode. In quick battles its actually nice with 60fps, but roaming about or basically everything else, 30fps mode, the loss if detail/settings isnt worth it. Its also to be said the 30fps mode is very smooth, no noticable input lags of any sort. Its a stunning game, but its heavy. Its one of those few games who truly use the ssd for streaming aside from rift apart, 2077 etc, not just for faster loading.

Cant wait to play FW on pc, if its as solid as the other sony ports, we can explore this one in 4k/60 maxed settings, above the ’original’ presets. Dlls support would be…. nice. RT GI would be killer.

It is odd, the 1800p mode looks much worse than it really should, I hope this patch alleviates it, or they can fix it in a future patch. Even the 30fps mode almost looks TOO sharp. Great when you're not moving, but the shimmering is a bit much here and there.

Perhaps a 40fps mode like rift apart, its a niche market (120fps screen), but adoption will improve over time.
I have very little to ’complain’ about the 30fps mode, improvements will come though and are always welcomed.

You have to get FW if you own a ps5, its a showcase of all-around graphics. Still have to try with headphones, should give more detail. How do others play here? Headphones or speakers?

Headphones - very impressive. I also played a bit with my big Atmos sound system - also super impressive - but given my work hours lately, I haven't really been able to take advantage of that very well.

Extremely thorough comparison. Some downgrades and upgrades. Mostly a wash I'd say excluding underwater which IMO looks much worse in the final game. Artistically I prefer the older lighting/color grading. One of the upgrades I think is the most significant is how realistically the vegetation moves with wind. I've never seen so many bend points in a game.

yeas underwater is downgrade also hero light was stronger but resolution and textures are better (or maybe because youtube compression), folliage animation/interaction is big improvement, color grading is something you can calibrate on tv to some degree at least

Level 34 and I've managed to exhaust side quests and press on with the main story. I now have two of the three things you need and, working on the them logically, the second thing is utterly fantastic. It's really nice to see recognisable bits of the old world presented so imaginatively. It's a real treat!

This is a cool comparison. I don't see any clear technical downgrades except for the lack of aloy's hero lighting. Everything else looks like an (often for the worse) art direction change, probably as a consequence of having to light the area for the whole open world, rather than a single scripted sequence... I think the person who made the video is speculating too much about "missing GI" and whatever else. Notably all of the foliage and vistas are still there as is, and I don't think minor changes to lowpoly ruins were made for performance reasons.

Im limited to certain volume levels aswell. And when i play its family members watching along (and switching hands with the controller), playing with headphones would be awkward then. I have to try with headphones though, this game sounds excellent without them already.

Its a long game for sure. I have no idea how people can go through this one in 8/9 hours (reviews). Im above that by now, the game aint finished yet.

OK, just finished experiencing the game in Performance Mode. Even with the random graphical glitches, it's still by far the best looking game on current gen in Performance mode.

Also, the story telling is significantly improved from HZD, but I think the story was better in HZD. Still not a bad story, but it felt a bit contrived to me when you get towards the end ... compared to HZD. The story telling though. IMO, this game does voice acted and animated story telling far better than any other game on the market. Really impressive.

Also, as expected, this is going to be a trilogy. The antagonist for the 3rd game has been revealed. Can't wait.

Glad I got to experience that in full before Elden Ring releases. :)

How long did it take you to complete?

I now have all three things and I'm on 42 hours and 39 minutes. Which is a long game for me. I feel like I'm in the final stretch of missions.
Five robot dinosaurs elude me in the machine catalogue.

I’m taking my time with it. I feel like I haven’t had anything great to play in so long, I need to make this last a little while. Oh then again Elden Ring has already downloaded.

A bunch of interesting side quests just opened up and I also realised that I've only done one cauldron. I discovered this when I had to override a Bristleback for another side quest and I noticed I didn't have the override code for it. So I guess I'm not close to done, because I need to do all the cauldrons so my army of Thunderjaws can devour my enemies. That was always fun in Horizon Zero Dawn.

What this game does really well is highlighting when people have new dialogue - with the little icon over their heads. One of my biggest frustrations replaying Mass Effect Legendary Edition was pointlessly running around my ship to all of the crew to find out if they had anything new to say, only to be have the default "I'm kind of busy now Shepherd, maybe later". :runaway:

By experience I mean watching others play it (streamers and locally at friend's places). I've probably spent around 100-125 hours watching people play it. Most of that was watching them do side mission stuff as I tried to avoid seeing parts of the story that I'd seen others go through. So for the main story, I watched a full progression by one person and then once that was over I splurged on watching various other people to see how various side missions played out.

That brings me to what impresses me so much with the story telling in this game. Beyond the voice acting and in game emoting (body language) the side quests were extremely well done with most of them being something worth doing and paying attention to from a story perspective.

If I were to contrast that with another recent AAA release, Dying Light 2 ... Well, let's just say DL2 is an example of how not to do side missions stories. :p While HFW managed to make me care about the characters in the side missions and want to help them and want to find out more about their stories and the reward at the end was just a nice bonus, DL2 had me feeling like, why should I care? You're a shit human, why am I even doing these side missions for you other than whatever crappy reward you might give at the end of it. And shut up about your story and background, I don't care ... auuuugh.

OTOH - NPC's are annoying as F*&! when they accompany you on missions. Hey Aloy, you should use acid arrows! Meanwhile, Aloy has been shooting the robo-dinos with acid arrows for a while now. Then later in the same fight. Hey Aloy, you should use acid arrows. Then later in the same fight, guess what? Hey Aloy, you should use acid arrows. AAAUUUGGGGH. It was so bad, multiple streamers commented on how ridiculous it was. :p NPC dialog in fights is definitely a really low point in the game.

Again, to contrast with a recent game. Guardians of the Galaxy shows how NPC chatter in combat should be like.

Also, while I love Aloy's character, OMG her talking to herself constantly makes her come across as autistic or something. I'm sure other people don't find it as annoying, but holy hell I just wanted her to shut up when exploring. And I wasn't alone in that, saw other people commenting the same thing.

But again, while there were some annoyances with things that could have been done better, IMO, overall, this is definitely a stand out game from a story and storytelling standpoing. And while the gameplay doesn't really do much for me (tried it for a bit at a friend's place), I can certainly see why many people really enjoy the gameplay. I'm just extremely grateful that I don't have to actually play the game to experience that wonderful story and storytelling.

One last thing I'll note. It was amusing watching people flailing around on controller trying to aim and hit fast moving robo-dinos. :) I'm sure the gyro would probably help if you took the time to get used to it, but everyone I watched (friends and streamers) tried it out and then immediately turned it back off again as they said it didn't feel good to use it. A big part of the difficult of the game is just how hard it is to aim with analog sticks against fast moving and sometimes small targets.

So, all that said. When this game finally arrives on PC. You can bet I'm going to buy it even if I never play it. :)

The handholding is one of big weakness of the game. I only see one video of reviewer showing it this is horrible.

EDIT: one NPC, this is crazy

I wish they would dial down Aloy's constant talking. It's annoying how much she has to say about every little thing she must do. Also, all vegetation in ruins, dungeons or interior locations don't react to her movement, I wonder if its a bug or its that way due to performance reasons.

Play in 30fps mode, its a different world.
