So I planned to buy it in a few months, because I've other games to finish, but it seems I won't be able to wait... Now, I didn't read a lot of review because I don't want to be spoiled of anything, but is the game pretty "clean/bug free" right now, or is it better to wait a little ?

Nothing to be worried about, ivent noticed anything and im 3/4 hours in.

I don't know. We are starting to see the limits of an old engine designed for PS4. Decima was perfect for PS4, but ported for PS5 it's objectively obsolete compared to others engines. Even a small team like 4A games could implement RT lighting at 60fps in an open world game. It's like they are not even trying to modernize their engine here. PS4 graphics at 4K + more details seem enough for them.

I think for their next game it would be best if they used UE5.
Sorry but this is an absolute load of shit.

Metro Exodus runs with full RT but literally every other aspect of the graphics looks a bit rubbish. You really can’t even compare them. HFW looks WAY better than Metro Exodus and that’s without any form of RT.

Everyone that has played it, myself included, is saying that it’s the best looking game out right now, yet you for whatever reason are still talking trash, based on whatever YouTube videos you have watched. You really need a dose of objectivity in your posts.

Theres nothing better-looking on the ps5 right now, im very impressed by the night-time scenes in special.

I think there is nothing better looking everywhere.

Better perhaps not. FW isnt the number one either, its comfortably up there alongside the best when considering all games on all platforms. Anyway, i think its all personal opinions, some think FW isnt anything more then a upressed ps4 game like someone in this topic, so yea these discussions tend to go nowhere.

FW certainly pins the art direction, craftmanship, assets, geometry. While other aaa games excell elsewhere. But all look very good, only things looking better are trch demos. But thats nothing new.

Story/campaign is better than last i think, even though i dont care for SP games anymore, the visuals are amazing. Day night cycles are much improved aswell. Wish there were cheats or savefiles to have the game completed 100% and just explore :p

there can't be absolute number one game of all, as each game tends to focus on specific parts, but as an open world "rpg/adventure" game it is among the bests.
though there are still things that i don't like, animation is still not naughty dog levels of fidelity(or rockstar), i don't like screen space shadows as they disappear when the object is out of view, i find it more distracting than SSR. Foliage reacts to Aloy, NPCs and animals, but not robots sadly. Of course you can't have everything everytime with the hardware limits.
There are still things reminiscent of last gen i think. their next game should crank things up even more i'm sure.
Anyway it's still an awesome looking game and i've already spent 3h only exploring the first part of the world and 3 more hours actually playing the game.

There are certainly elements that look better in other games, but as a cohesive whole I agree hfw is much better looking than the lower budget, 3 year old, metro exodus. I think it's definitely true that you can see some of the seams of crossgen development here, but an open world game packed with dense constantly moving foliage and wide vistas probably isn't going to use RT for everything, even on PC.

That said, I think the contact shadows (honorable mention to the regular shadows) might be the worst component of the game's overall image, and definitely scream out to be replaced by something, if the hardware permits. Shadows flicker constantly and never look quite right.

Yeah probably best looking open world game, with superb character models not only for main charater but also npc, animal models, robots, amazing animations for npc dialogs, usualy very good textures, dense folliage and details, very good water, clouds, sky, good draw distance - generaly almost all elements nailed. But found also some things to improvement. Firstly disappointing perf mode, even tough in horizon 1 cb was one of the best here for some reasons just doesn't work and lack of 40fps mode is painful. Even touugh I wrote earlier majority of textures are very good quality some are still ps4 era (notice this on doors), some shimering near Aloy hairs caused probably by motion blur + hero light, sometimes during dialog character has strange/dead eye looks, missing eye contact. On some plants sometimes no interactivity where same plant in other place has interactivity (probably bug). And in one of cutscene there was problem with popup/loading assets.

Exactly, hence i said we dont really have the all-in-one featured game. Probably wont ever exist who knows. Im blown away by Fw the more i play it, 30fps mode.

GG made the right choices imo, instead of GI RT they went with 6 different baked solutions, with some craftmanship it looks stunning. Im mostly exploring (trying to atleast) and the cycle from day to night is the best ive ever seen in any game so far. Tech demos aint games, they are just that, technology demonstrators, tech demos dont have to develop around a story, advanced AI and scope of a game like FW is.

avatar will be a serious contender

If its anywhere close to what they have shown, its the king of graphics for sure. I just dont think we will get anything remotely close to what they showed, which was more CGI then game i think.

Been playing for a few hours and enjoying the introduction :) Game is super pretty, very densely detailed

I played until I hit the title screen and thoroughly enjoyed it but the tutorial is pants.

In the opening area with Varl, it teaches you concepts like scanning robots for weak points, identifying their pathing so you can place traps, and explains the basics of stealth like hiding in long grass but does not tell you that you need to crouch, or even how to crouch. For 20 minutes I genuinely thought that there was no crouch (which is on Square) because even if you go into the control/controller view it doesn't show square as being crouch.

After being spotted in long grass for the second time, I went to google and guess what?

I began typing "how do you crouch in hor.." and google auto-completed "how do you crouch in horizon forbidden west" :???:

Irksome tutorial aside, the game is fabulous..

edit: Varl. stupid auto-correct.

Worst for me was how to throw a rock. I didn't remember how from the first game, and what was displayed on screen was just wrong :D

In some area, the shadows were popping a lot, like I could move back and forth and cleary see the shadow "line" 20-25 meter away moving with me, instead of way further in most areas.

Yeah the tutorial was a bit hit or miss, my highlight was probably the fight with the cobra looking machine, the animation and detail of that was stunning

One interesting thing, the game has some weird banding/acne issues with shadowmaps:

Perhaps they are using lower precision depth format for the shadow map to lower memory pressure as they overlap shadows and gbuffer? Or maybe just poor z-biasing (or perhaps both :D).

I'm now a few quests on (level 5) in the Daunt and the combat is so damned good. It's just like I remember the first game's combat being really satisfying, with the scanning, marking, smashing, dodging, and shooting but better with all of the mechanics improvements.

I love the introduction of bots calling for aid and quest voice work is really good. The whole world feels really well put together.
