Hole in Nintendo's Plan

PS2 looks like butt compared to a Gamecube though, I don't think it'll be in the same league as the Wii.

But PS2 sales made Gamecube sales look like butt.

And the Wii will not be in the same league as the PS3.

AMIRITE?

Doubt it. Wii/GC GPU just does not have the shader power to do those games.

That is what have been said by devs, both in IGN (souped up XB) or RS dev that said that overall it is more powerfull, plus there is even some devs that said GC is in the same league as XB (Factor 5) or even ERP that said that while the TEV is more limited than XB PSs but they are near. Anyway I am going off topic althought knowing what is possible in terms of cross platform with next gen would help in the thread.

What gives you that impression? IGN's article?, the same article made it clear that Wii was more powerful then XBox...

We don't really know for sure yet though. You have to remember that the Wii only outputs 480p max. That's a fair amount fewer pixels to render per frame right there, and compensates at least partly for a number of specs. It still won't look as good, even disregarding the lower resolution, but it doesn't have to be as far off as you'd originally think. We'll just have to wait and see. But I do think it will take a while for Wii's games to impress graphically, as I have a feeling that devs are getting the final hardware rather late in the cycle ...

There could be a hole in nintendo's plans if they rely too much on the revmote, because both sony and microsoft have patents for similar devices. A later introduction of a new controller in a console's life cycle is very much possible (psx dual shock).
That's just to stay OT. What I really wanted to know is whether Wii's 480p will enable the console to output a decent picture on HDTVs, because from what I've seen non-hd signals look awfull on most of HDTVs.
The other thing is about relatively small (crt) TVs that you'll find in most children's rooms, to me it seems like it will be pretty hard to point accurately on such a small surface, you'd need to sit closer to the tv. most parents won't be happy about that.

XBox being the only console in the past gen with "pixel shaders" was a marketing myth from day one.

It should look fine. I'm using a Gamecube to put 480p to a 47" HDTV via component cable. Much nicer than SD S-video or composite.

Those are some normal mapping heavy games. Gamecube TEV is not up those standards and the latest Wii-footage doesn´t show much of a difference in performance.

Sorry for the of topic again.

"We did a lot of good looking games on this generation of graphics processors," he explained to Nintendo Power. "The Wii hardware is more powerful than those, so that's good enough for us."

Plus there is other similar technincs like poly bump from Cryteck that GC can do. You can see in their website.

Midway is porting Mortal Kombat: Armageddon over from PS2, and it sounds like the new Marvel: UA is going to be a PS2 port as well. I could be right.
