Halo: Reach

I've known American Football Players, weight lifters and boxers. There isn't anything unrealistic about the Gears faces, although they focus on one extreme.

In fact compared to many NFL Linemen (heck even College) the necks in Gears are positively slim... :)

The one oddity in that screenshot above is that their bodies are too slim for their supposed muscular bulk. especially when you take into account they are supposedly wearing heavy/bulky armor.

IE - the Head, Arms, and legs are about the right proportions, but the chest seems absolutely tiny.

SB

it should be of noting that gears of war's cast is clearly made up of older men, of ages ranging from over 35 to 40.

the two people that we have seen so far in Reach look a few years younger, thus probably more rounder.

you know i wish they would have made a 3 minute clip instead.

when is the next showing of Reach?

Most characters from Gears have a rather Neanderthal looking facial proportion, it's unrealistic for sure but at the same time I like that exaggerated style, if only to isolate it from other generic looking space marines. This is where Halo faces fall in short, they don't have characters just generic clones. It's good to see they have increased the polygons in the head but I feel like they're copying a bit too much from Mass Effect peeps.

Trust me, Gears character anatomy is very far from realistic.

I don't know. Those sires look a bit like Ricky Williams. Those kantus look a bit like land-sharks. They look pretty realistic to me. ;)

At first I hated this "Army of Two" guy, but now that I see him spreading to avatars around the internet, he's pretty cool

heh, Army of Two guy.

interesting avatar, a man who never thinks his blade is sharp enough.;)

yeah, it's a pretty cool.

out of 5 soldiers we've only seen two with their helmets off, if more helmet unveiling is to be done, i'm hoping for the rest to match well.

the first two have interesting facial detail as well as geometry detail.

I think Reach is going to be like ODST. That main guy walking in will be Spartan you'll play as & you'll never hear him talk or see his face. The only difference here is that it won't be a night/day cycle where you flip flop between characters. Something also tells me won't be seeing or playing as the Chief. If we do see him, it might be briefly in a cinematic.

The girl, who stands in direct light, looks a lot better, although she's admittedly not the usual 'game babe' beauty.

I like her eyes. They look odd, although in cool way.

I doubt we'll see much of the Spartans without their helmets during gameplay, maybe just in cutscenes. If Reach is like previous Halo games, we'll be up to our asses in bad guys so there won't be time for chit chat, unlike Mass Effect where it seemed you were supposed to talk everyone to death.

Its based on REACH novel, set during the early years of Spartan program ;so yes they are all Spartans.

wow, i gotta get the novel then.

6 Spartans all in combat in Halo: reach?

well, I usually see it happening anyway in the online campaign mode of course:smile2:

but story wise this is actually bigger than i thought.

I don't know if this is a spoiler or not, but for those who read Fall of Reach:
Do the Spartans actually accomplish anything during the battle for Reach? I thought the Covenant had just nuked the planet from orbit.

The novel features a lot of ground combat and even some starship boarding, but there's nothing there like the characters in this cinematic, from what I've read around the net. There were only ~150 recruits in the Spartan II program, and most characters in Noble team have an ID with numbers higher then that, so they are clearly not the 'Fall of Reach' novel's cast.

AFAIK those guys quickly abandon the main defensive battles and end up with a much more limited objective. And they eventually regroup with Master Chief between Halo1 and Halo2, right?

Since Halo: Reach features a new group, it's either a complete rewrite of the events, dismissing the books altogether; or another series of battles taking place in parallel to the novel's plot.

I think Reach is going to be one of those games where they all die in the end.
The teaser trailer proclaimed "You know how it ends". So I think its going to be pretty bleak and tragic.

I'd say it's more evidence of Bungie's creative bankruptcy, a "prequel" which I dislike, but of course is all they do anymore. Female Spartan seems a bit sell-out ish too. Ahh well, hope the game is good, then it will be forgiven :)

I've meant rewrite as in with regards to Spartan participation.

Well, Reach was attacked in 2552, and I believe the Spartan III program began many years earlier. Moreover, the novels indicate they trained hundreds of Spartan IIIs (they were considered expendable, unlike the Spartan IIs). Also, the novels imply some of the IIIs exhibited personality disorders due to using controversial and not fully developed genetic engineering augmentations. The trailer showed that each Spartan was an individual and implied the new guy was a loose cannon (which you don't see in Spartan IIs). Therefore, the Noble team probably consists of Spartan IIIs. That would explain the higher ID numbers.

And yes, the battle for Reach ended badly. As far as I know, the only thing it "accomplished" was getting the Master Chief and the Pillar of Autumn to chase a Covenant ship through slipspace to the Halo ring world, thus beginning the first game.
