Halo: Reach

A lot of those games would have been totally different as TPSs because of how the cover mechanics work. Uncharted is a good example also because of all the platforming.

Someone is really putting effort into this fake screens if they are fake?
Spartan looks kinda retarded who leans so much to the front unless gun has epic kick back.
Is there a rumor thread just saw some picture on gaf with banjo kinect and perfect dark 2 kinect

- Halo Nemesis is not the real Halo 4
- remake rumors are true: Nemesis is a mix between remake of halo:ce and events in johns past (flashbacks)
- the actual build was shown in germany at closed doors
- nemesis will be released on xblm in mid 11
- you will play john-117 (masterchief)
- you can switch into 3rd person mode (just like in bungies theatre mode)
- acutal demo contains three level, one of them is an unfinished version of silent cartographer
- in the acutal demo youre always wearing an old armor from johns past
- did a developer ever stated leaks as true?

There isn't a single TPS ever made that wouldn't have been better in FPS view, IMO. I'm sure many will disagree with this game or that. But IMO, every single one of them would be better as an FPS.

No disagreement here.

I hope to all that is precious and good in the universe that the next Halo is still a first person shooter.

If the next Halo is a TPS, then it's the end of Halo. Bungie got out just in time.

It would be interesting if the 10th anniversary was Cortana reminiscing John's past battles, which would include maybe the "best-of" Halo 1/2 levels or other.... A game to bridge the gap between H3 and the sequel.

Not sure if she worked on it, but yeah the Brothers in Arms series was one of the first games to have a working cover mechanic which later TPS games, borrowed from. There have been some earlier FPS games with a basic cover mechanic (beyond just moving your entire body behind a wall), but can't think of any off the top of my head. These were mostly of the sort where you stick to a wall and then lean left or right.

As well BIA series is still the most realistic as it doesn't feature "cover set pieces" just for the sake of providing cover as most TPS games that come after it use (looking at you Gears :p).

Out of all of those the only one that "might" be better as a TPS is Tomb Raider. All the rest would have been far far better as an FPS, IMO. And maybe Splinter Cell. Haven't played Crackdown but always got the impression it wasn't a shooter but more of a platformer. Sort of like Tomb Raider is almost more platformer than Shooter, especially the newest one.

ME especially annoyed the ever living hell out of me with the over the shoulder perspective, but it's forgiveable as the first one was an RPG. Not so forgivable for the second one. As well the Gears series could have been far better in first person, IMO.

Gears of war will turn into Unreal tournament if you make it an FPS, but then you lose the CQC combat, the maneuverability you get from pulling off tricks like slide cancel, wall bouncing etc etc...one look at how a high level multiplayer match works will tell you that with these mechanics Gears is FAR better as a TPS. I'll say the same for Uncharted, Red Dead Redemption and Hitman. I can't even imagine playing these games in first person view (maybe Hitman as it did have a switchable first person view..which tbh sucked ass). On the other hand Red Dead will play out as recent Call of Juarez if its turned into a first person game and tbh that doesn't exactly sounds appealing when compared to how Red Dead is right now.

First Person view undeniably improves the aiming but it also limit your character's maneuverability and body movements, which is something which you wouldn't want to lose when you play games like Uncharted and Gears.

IIRC Hell's Highway is the only BIA game to have a cover system...& the FPS game/TPS while in cover was something directly borrowed from Rainbow Six Vegas.
Killswitch was the first game to have a dedicated cover system, followed by this James Bond game called Everything or Nothing (which was rather awesome) and then there was Gears of War, which as we already know...was the game that made cover system a mainstream gameplay mechanic.

No argument on that one. Cover became an industry buzzword due to Gears of War even if it had been implemented to some extent in other games.

As for the rest, I can't agree. But then it's a matter of personal taste. I personally can't stand TPS over the shoulder view for a dedicated shooter. It's unnatural, uncomfortable, impossible to suspend disbelief and get drawn into the game, cluttered looking with the players body blocking a fair portion of your view, unrealistic in being able to look around corners while not even being close to the corner of a building or obstacle, yada yada yada.

I don't think it's possible to convince me there is anything remotely good about TPS over the shoulder view in a dedicated shooter.

For a platformer maybe. But even there most of the stuff can be done just as well and more immersively from a FPS point of view. Mirror's Edge for example. Even though I didn't like the game itself the platforming mechanics were solid and orders of magnitude more immersive than any platformer that tried to combine shooting with platforming.

Huh? Where are you getting all these pics? I only saw the first "Nemesis" pic on GAF.

And the graphics still look quite terrible.

I'm wondering, if it's fake, the model reminds me a lot of the Dead Space guy's model/stance. Maybe if it is a fake that model was the Master Chief basis for the fake.

If true though, mid 11 would be a great time for MS to release something since they've got so little on the slate, particularly in early-mid 11. Also hard to believe it would be an "XBLM" title though. If it is, would likely be something of a first for MS, a major title released and marketed over Live?

- did a developer ever stated leaks as true?

Now this is misleading. In fact I dont believe a developer has ever directly denied a specific rumor/picture, as Frankie did here, and then it be true later. Sure, developers dont confirm leaks, but they also dont directly deny them if they are real (pretty sure MS never commented, certainly didn't deny, the early Reach leaked pics for example)

@Rangers i believe someone wanted to troll that thread on gaf and made a real shop about rare.

/cry i want to believe, i deserve my platform banjo.

That seems like a clear non confirmation confirmation type thing, the only fly in the ointment is Phil Spencers previous comments (he basically downplayed the idea).

The remake could be like a Halo 4 prologue GT style just a engine/gameplay test.

If they are going to remake CD (thumbs up) they better use the Reach engine. A shoddy Halo CE remake is a no go for me.

I'd rather have a true Halo 4 instead of a Halo CE remake anytime. Bad thing is they're probably holding off Halo 4 for next gen. So a remake as a stop-gap seems plausible.

Rather have them save Halo 4 for next gen because hey the return of the chief needs to in 1080p.

Agreed. Some other game set in the Halo universe this gen is fine, so long as it's an FPS. :D

Don't need to see the Chief until next gen.

I'm just afraid that if they remake Halo CE some idiot noob gameplay designer will insist on nerfing the pistol for "balance" purposes. IMO Halo CE had such a huge MP following precisely because of the overpowered weapons like the pistol and plasma freeze effect, both of which have either been neutered or completely removed in subsequent games.

Don't get me wrong a good remake of CE would be great, but I'm nervous about 343 doing it instead of Bungie. Just hope there are achievements. ;) Any desire for a Halo 2 remake? They never released Halo 2 on Games On Demand/Originals.
