I wrote up a thingy detailing the gist of some of Halo 3's graphical choices, what they mean, and how they come together. Some may find it interesting. On the whole, I think Halo 3's graphical makeup is pretty fascinating, in how much it overshoots and undershoots on various things in the generational leap, and how it nonetheless comes together into a product that a lot of people think looks pretty good.

I always used to think Halo 3 looked pretty great back then, even with some things (like character models) not looking all that good for the time, will definitely read.
 
Nice write-up. Would be interested in your thoughts or an analysis of how things moved along in the series.
 
10th anniversary of Halo 3 is here and watching the trailer again...ufff

With Halo 1 and 2 setting new superb standards in console graphics, I was expecting a lot more from Halo 3. I finished the game but I was far from being impressed. It was a decent looking game. But beyond that?
Cant say much.
Gears replaced what Halo was on the OG XBOX.
Same with ODST. Reach looked like that Halo game I was expecting, it was eventually kinda better but that didnt get me very excited either when I got it.#
I am talking only about the visuals.

btw, your HDR explanation is top-notch material (well, the whole article in fact, but that part really helps to understand what HDR bring to the table, especially in these days)
