Halo 2 sells ___ million first day

Oh really? Still, there is a signed agreement between Sony and Rockstar conserning GTA:SA exclusivity, isn't there. Whether they directly got "paid" for it, or agreed on Sony putting marketing money on future Rockstar games.... does it make any difference really?

There isn't a signed agreement for SA form what I've been told. Like I said, Rockstar offers this to sony (essentially for free) in exchange for getting thier way with products. Rockstar can jump the testing que, not bother submitting for concept approval, and an assortment of other BS developers and publishers can't pull off. Again, Sony isn't marketing this game, rockstar is, and yes knowing what is happening on a product like this "does" make a difference. If you don't believe me, then I really don't care.

It's not like Rockstar are threatening Sony: "if you don't make the PS3 pink and furry with penis shaped controllers, we're not making any GTA games for you anymore"

That's exactly what Rockstar does. They threaten to NOT make it exclusive, and Sony knows it's a system seller so they agree to keep them happy. I know people working for SCEA and R* that have confirmed this. Not only that I know people at other publishers that deal directly with SCEA and they have also been told that SCEA hates what rockstar does to get thier way as well.

you make it sound like serious bullying, when in fact it probably is just everyday business negotiations.
Just because you heard some Rockstar workers talking about the deal (gossiping would perhaps describe it well enough) in an elevator, doesn't mean what you heard is the true side of the story

Once again, don't asusme you know what you are talking about. Its a heck of a lot more concerete than elevator gossip.

You might claim you're "in the know" and others are just "assuming", but in the end it's how you view it.

Ok, whatever you say... So btw, what "does" make you think you know how this worked?

How much did MS put on Halo ad campaign, o thou in the know?

No idea. I basing my opinion, and that is what it was, on the frequency of Halo 2 advertisements outside of print media. btw, I didn't claim it as a fact, that was simply my opinion (and I can admit that).

btw thanks for whomever fixed the title of the thread. I was just going to ask this morning as it was driving me nuts ;)

You're lucky jvd didn't amend it to "Halo2 , :sells ___ millions '# first day ! ! ! . !"

(jvd's punctuation drives me mad)

Halo2 sold well because ... it just did, people loved Halo. Over the years, gamers have associated Halo as best console fps, Halo as Mr Xbox himself, the awards and praises keep coming in, the fanbase grows. Like any established item, the fans will always be there.

No need to try to dissect why and so that hard. People like Halo, people passed on to more people and the Halo phenomenal just rolls on. Will Halo2 sell less without marketing? Well, will game X sell less without marketing?

I dont really think Halo2 adverts are anymore above than most big titles. If so, MS can only be commended to have run a successful campaign.

In good old Melbourne Australia... we have trams completely covered by the H2 image running around. I've not seen any other games adv in this form, but it does look good. Also 1 of every 2 bus stops have the H2 ad.

If this is not above any other games.. I don't know what is. :D

Well some more concrete "evidence" would be nice.

Why Sony didn't buy DMA Design is beyond me.
